Maps & My 40LM

My 40LM currently has a Florida Topo map loaded on a microSD card and CN NA NT 2013.20 loaded internally. The map info page lists the Florida Topo map first and the CN map second. Both are checked since I like seeing the topo information as I drive.

A few years ago, many of the streets in my area were renamed to eliminate situations like Jones Rd., Jones St., and Jones Ave. in the same zip code.

The Florida Topo map obviously pre-dates the street name changes because it shows the old street names. The CN 2013.20 shows the new street names.

Problem is, when I have both maps checked, the old street names are shown on the map screen. Funny thing is, when I'm navigating a route, the device directs me using the new street names.

So, my question is, is there a way to have the map screen show the new street names (as used by the CN 2013.20 map) while still showing the topo features of the Florida Topo map?

TIA for any help.

Topo? FL?

My guess is that street names are as much a part of the topo map image as are lakes and contour lines. If so, it's a "take or leave it all" option.

On the other hand, why do I smile when I read topo and Florida in the same post? Are your contour intervals measured in inches? It reminds me of a bike ride I did a few times in Findlay OH which advertised that the biggest hill to climb on the ride was a highway overpass: the Hancock Horizontal Hundred.

Cute! ;)

Cute! wink

Florida actually does have some hills in the center of the peninsula. Not exactly the Rocky Mountains though. And of course there are plenty of lakes and wetlands.

I do a lot of hiking in the beautiful Florida winter, and I've repurposed my old 260W as my hiking gps. It's actually quite useful, especially with the topo maps loaded. I love coming home from a day hike and loading my track onto Google Earth.

Back to my original issue, I can live with it since all routing is done using the new street names. Besides, I'm pretty familiar with my little town. wink
