2012.40 vs. 2013.30

I managed to update the firmware in my 34xx to v.7.50 but with all the complaints RE: less detailed Lane Assist, navigation errors, and lost streets with mapset 2013.30, I held back with 2012.40. It appears that 2013.10 was the last good update but when I tried to update via myGarmin, it only gives 2013.30 as the option. I'm wondering if there is a) a way to get 2013.10 as a stand alone download or b) should I just update to 2013.30 or leave it alone until 2013.40 is released and hopefully fixes the above issues? Not sure which way to turn at this point.

Easy?

cool
If you have LMT (lifetime maps) then get what you have paid for!
Update to 2013.30
If you don't have LMT, Wait for the next update... why go backwards over a few errors?

2013.40 should be out fairly soon, as in a few weeks or so.

MapSource doesn't like 2013.30

If you use MapSource, you may want to hold off on updating. MapSource crashes frequently with 2013.30.

Currently Garmin does not provide a way to roll back to an earlier map version.

My 2013.30 crashed yesterday for the first time. I had been thinking that YOU guys were doing something wrong.
I have been planning our upcoming vacation using Mapsource. Because of reports, I do save often.

Never had issues with .30 on

Never had issues with .30 on 3750. Could be unit over heating.

3.4GB is the size of my complete back-up including favs and poi's for 2013.20 and 3.29GB for 2012.40
That's not a lot. We all talk about back-ups in here all the time. Nuff said.

Whether to wait or not is up

Whether to wait or not is up to you. I am using the latest map with no problems. The next map update will be out circa mid February if you choose to wait.

Gonna Wait

I actually use it with Basecamp since I was kinda forced out of Mapsource (which I liked better). All the LA is still in tact with f/w 7.50 and 2012.40 but I will wait to see what the reviews are like when 2013.40 is released. I'm going to CES later this week so I'll have my chance to bitch at them but it will be like talking to the wall!

Thanks again.

Give A Look

While your at the CES show in Vegas I would think they would have the 2013 models there to tinker with.
Please let us know what your impression is.

I also understand they will be displaying some ULTRA HDTV's, supposedly they have 4 times the resolution of HD Tv's. For $20,000 for these units they won't be seeing my hard earned dollars any time soon.

20k for a TV??? I never knew that I was so far out of the mainstream. I still whine when I pay more than that for a CAR!!!

Actually know that I think of it, I was walking through a Sony store the other day and saw an insanely expensive TV there that was REALLY sharp ... might be the same technology?

Interesting (albeit irrelevant) stuff!

I still don't understand on the latest updates why my garmin is taking me some strange yet longer routes. I have on my garmin to take me the fastest way possible.

The latest mapset borked a number of rural speed limits on my unit. The speed limits used to show properly and now they are all messed up in some places. Not a good change at all.

On some Garmins you can change the speed limits by holding the speed limit sign and then adding the correct number.

The map and speed data that Garmin uses comes from Navteq.

Yeah I hate updates it

Yeah I hate updates it always makes something worse that's existing. Example "Find Home": 2012.10 my address was spot on. 2012.20 said my house was 100 feet farther down the road. 2012.30 directed me to the back of my house. 2013.30 my house is back to 100 feet farther down the road again.

How did you determine "home"?

If you're sitting in your driveway and save the location as Home, you should be spot on with any map update. If instead you select your address and call that Home, then your results are to be expected--in fact, being off with an address-based location by only 100 feet is actually better than you should expect.

If the bugs are an issue for how you use your Garmin hold off until there is a release that works for you. Just because you have the free update doesn't mean you have to use it.

No problems with 2013.30

Either with Mapsource or my 2595.
