MyGarmin

is down, was on the phone to Garmin CS over a Montana 650T rugged mount issue and they were not able to help me (access my acct, etc) much due to some significant server issues and ask me to call back later today once it gets corrected. I see it is still down as of 2:50 PM CST

Update of sorts

Per Garmin Twitter, issues persist and they are "working on it".

Garmin QC.

I worked in IT for 34 years before retiring in 2009. It amazes me how a technology company as large and experienced as Garmin can be so poor at quality control. If I or my co-workers had put out junk like Garmin does, we would have been fired.

I understand how everyone has server problems, software bugs, etc. But that is why you have fail-over systems and backup/recovery plans. Garmin seems to put out garbage time after time on their products and even their web presence is unreliable. They expect their customers to suffer through it and sort out the problems for them.

Don't get me wrong. I love my Garmin products. But it is no wonder that people are switching to smart phones and tablets. Garmin really needs to get it together.

Overload

Is it a heavy traffic issue, lots of new Garmin owners at this time of the year?

The mount has a locking screw to prevent the release latch from accidentally releasing and mine appears to be stripped as the screw just turns and doesn't tighten up. I would have to take it apart to determine the problem but don't want to risk invalidating the warranty at this point (just got it for Christmas).

Love my Montana though!!!!!

Server cause Nuvi 40LM map update fail?

Might Garmin's server problems be at the root of a lifetime map update failure? I'm getting a "the product key you've entered is not a valid product key" error when attempting to update a nuvi 40LM.

I am having the same

I am having the same problem. Garmin entered the product Key and then says the product key I entered is not valid. This is for a new Nuvi 2595 and first map update. It is 1am, I tried multiple times, no luck.

Maintenance went wrong?

Maybe they were doing maintenance, as during long holiday season there is usually less traffic on servers and something went wrong? We are living in times, that first they will bring down IT department to less than minimum and then are usually cutting down on regular maintenance waiting until something will brake down. And this can cause troubles of this sort, especially if most guys in IT department are often newbies with minimum pay and experience, because guy with experience is too expensive.

Same problem here and I have

Same problem here and I have been doing this on the same product for 4 or 5 years with no glitches. A real bummer after they made me download the downloader (again) and then this microsoft.net software that took about an hour. I will wait until after the holidays and try again. I couldn't even get them on the phone!

Garmin issues...

same problem here... brand new nuvi 50LM... I got it registered, updated the software, but when I try to load maps, it tells me I have an "invalid product key"... sent an email to CS but got more info here...

map update server is still down... last night, I could at least use the map update menu... today, the link is not even available... hopefully, they're trying to fix it and not taking the weekend off...

Garmin Servers

I guess it's all the people who got a new GPS for Christmas who are now trying to update their units.

Wow, this issue is exploding over on the Garmin forums. Lot's of very angry people, mostly users with new units and some who have paid for map updates. I hope Garmin can get this resolved quickly because this is really going to hurt their business and reputation.

...

Not a good start for Garmin's new CEO.

Update

Glad I did my update on Boxing Day. All went well then.

Map updates working now.

It seems the map updates are working now. I was able to update a friends nuvi 40LM this morning and several others have reported success on the Garmin forums. Hopefully Garmin will make a RFO statement rather than simply trying to ignore what happened.

Might be nice if they let everyone download some free premium voices as a little bennie for all the frustration caused.

Thanks. I just updated mine

Thanks. I just updated mine took 2 1/2 hours for US and Canada map update. The process was long but smooth. I seems like it is hung up since it takes so long to download the map but eventually it goes to install.
