Any way to update Volvo's Dashmounted Garmin?

We bought an 07 Volvo as a certified pre-owned vehicle in 2010 and I got my wife the dealer installed Garmin unit for it. It makes for a pretty clean and safe install, but the power hookup is not the standard USB that my 2455 has. Anyway, my unit starts up almost instantly (it is less than a year old) and my wife's takes what seems like forever when you are in a dark parking lot in an unfamiliar part of town. It doesn't seem like something that firmware is going to fix, but is there anything that can be done to make the Volvo unit boot faster?

By the way, I realize that mine won't be navigating until it gets a lock on 4 sats, but just the fact that you can have all your interaction done in a matter of seconds lets you get on the road, knowing that you won't have to distract yourself while driving once the GPS decides it is a good time to play. The options for the Volvo unit are 1: sit in the dark parking lot and pray for the best while you wait, 2: find a place to stop once it wakes up or 3: program it while driving. Basically I don't like any of the 3 options!

Thanks in advance!

clear trip log

It has been reported for some older nuvis like the 7x0 series, that you can shorten the boot up time by clearing the trip log ... Tools > MyData > Clear trip log.

Another thought

Do a hard reset and see if that helps any.

Thanks for the tips. I will

Thanks for the tips. I will try them both, but honestly, I don't think that the unit has slowed down, I think that the issue is that we have seen my newer unit and that has raised the performance bar. I was hoping to hear something like: "just update the firmware and all will be well" or "just pop the guts from a new 24xx into your old one and be done with it" ... I realize that this was probably wishful thinking on my part, but I had to ask smile

I will report back on results.

Yep ... the issue is just

Yep ... the issue is just that the unit is slow in comparison to the newer ones ... I wonder what an upgrade from Volvo will run ... I'm almost afraid to ask!

Thanks again,
