Nuvi does not like certain streets

Here is a head scratcher (for me anyway:

I have a Garmin Nuvi 205W; it works brilliantly EXCEPT when I enter a destination that has "north, south, east west" in the street name.

This is what happens; on the time travel/miles screen it will state the correct miles away and time it will take to get there. Once I press "GO", it suddenly will make a 20 mile trip into a 215 mile trip.

The destination on the map IS correct, but it makes a route all over god's creation just to get there. To make sure I was not going nuts, I parked ACCROSS the street from a bank located on South Webster, entered in it's address and pressed "GO". Apparently it takes 3 hours to get accross the street.

I have tried leaving out "South", no good. I've tried entering coordinates, no good. I've tried just poking the screen and clicking "save", no good....

I am completely baffled; the Garmin people are of NO help. They want me to pay them to fix it. I may as well buy a new GPS at that point - I have been searching the internet for anything similar but have come up with nothing.

Has anyone had this happen before? Does anyone have any suggestions for troubleshooting?

ANY help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Avoidances

This sounds like an odd issue, first I would suggest checking your avoidances to see if that makes any difference in the routing. Also check to see what option (Fastest/shortest/etc..) is selected. That would be where I would start.

That is where you should start.
If that doesn't cure it the next best thing to try is a hard reset, this procedure has fixed many a problem.

Here is a link to describe how to perform the hard reset, MAKE SURE you back up your FAVORITES (current.gpx) or you will lose them.

Loaded Maps conflict?

I checked the avoidances and I have none; I also have my route to fastest way of getting there.

Upon stumbing razz on a screen that shows what maps are loaded in my GPS, I noticed I had an equestrian map that I purchased some time ago and was checked as active.

I unchecked that map and I think it may have solved my problem (very strange problem indeed). I will let you know if it worked (simulation seems to work, but don't know if it will change once I actually get outside and reconnect with the satellite).

Thanks guys!!

Differently

Differently sounds like an avoidance issue but the other map could well cause the same problem.
