Any updates on Garmin ecoRoute HD OBD II monitor?

My son has asked Santa (pretty sure that means me) for one of the Garmin EcoRoute HD OBD II monitors to use with his Nuvi.

I've looked at the forums here and read the few comments, and some on other boards. Most seem to be a year or more old.

Any updates from folks who are using these, or tried but gave up?

I currently use a ScanGauge II, which is hard wired to the OBD II port in my Mini Cooper.

I can argue both ways on the EcoRoute HD -- one less gadget, the displays, from what I've seen of them, look good. On the other hand, the ScanGague is always there, and doesn't interrupt map displays or other stuff on the GPS.

I don't do bluetooth through my Nuvi, so that isn't an issue.

Surely there has to be someone around here with an opinion!

Thanks--

Stopped using mine

I haven't used my unit since I stopped using it over a year ago. I had some issues that may or may not have been its fault or that of my now retired 1490T.

I should try it again with my 2595LMT on my next trip...

My guess is the dedicated ScanGauge II as you've installed will make more sense for your son too, but the EcoRouteHD is better than nothing.

Ultragauge

I have an Ultragage ... similar to Scanguage, but quite a bit less expensive. It hard wires to the OBD II instead of blue tooth. Works great tho, and it does help me drive in a way that improves my fuel milage.

Mine fires up every time (almost)

Mine works great. It connects with Bluetooth, so I expect that it won't linke every so often. If it happens to not connect, I can turn of the ignition and restart the car or just wait until next time.

No problem

I only use it when I take long trips to see how the eggbeater engine is working at 70+ mph and in the mountains. So far nothing bad has happened.

thanks for the replies--

I appreciate the input. I had the opportunity to look at one in operation locally, which answered a bunch of questions. (And was able to explain to its owner that some of the lag he was seeing in the display wasn't necessarily all the Nuvi's fault -- part of it was on the OBD II side of the fence -- I see similar lag on my ScanGauge II.)

Santa delivered them, pre-wrapped, and they're waiting to go under the tree. I've got too muh to get done in the next week and a half to have one more gadget to play with right now!

same here.

Ecoroute HD

One thing it won't work with both Garmin GPS unit & Garmin Mechanic app on Android at the same time. Only one or the other.

HD ODB

I have bought one and used it on a long trip. It worked well with my 3790 but one thing that it may have contributed to was my RAV4 failure to operate at some points. Things like not shifting properly in reverse. I removed it and had no problem since. I had the car checked at dealer without the odb and it was fine. This unit can be used to reset alarms so it may do something to the car operating system. You may want to check with the car dealer before using it.

Bluetooth with iPhone and EcoRoute HD sometime conflicts

We have 2 3490s with 2 EcoRoute HDs in a Corolla and Honda Fit. Sometimes the iPhone bluetooth does not sync in the Fit although the EcoRoute always does. The gauges displayed are not the same between the Toyota and Fit. The Fit displays Manifold pressure while the Toyota does not.

I use the Garmin ODB

and love it.
The initial connected took awhile for some reason, but once it finally connected it was good to go.

The only bad thing is that when gas is expensive I dread seeing how much a trip is going to cost me in gas.

Plan to determine optimal speed

I plan to use it to determine the optimal speed for towing my RV trailer. I suspect somewhere between 50 and 60 mph.

I got mine as a bundle when I bought my 3790LMT
I have a Diesel Truck and also use it for towing our RV. As far as this thing is concerned, if you have a Diesel its a waste of money. I knew that when i got it, but what the heck it was thrown in.
