International Chargers for Garmin nuvi 3590

I will be going to Europe in the near future and plan to bring my nuvi 3590 with me. When I checked with Garmin they told me that I could not use my AC charger (Garmin) and had to buy their international kit. I already have multiple plug adapters.

The charger I have has an input of100-240V, 0.3A, 50-60Hz, 10-20VA
Output:5V 1A

If the input in Europe is 220V wouldn't this charger work?

Thanks

It will work

My niece took my Garmin to Ireland(after I purchased UK maps for her on an SD card) and she had no problems at all. All she had to get was the plug adapters.

Her fiance recently took it to England.

Garmin's response

This is the response I got from Garmin when I posed them the question:

"As far as the AC power cable goes, you will need to get a voltage converter to hook at the end of the plug (or plug it into a transformer that plugs into the wall), because if you try to plug the adapter into the wall as is, it will literally fry the device.

If you get a voltage converter though that you can attach at the end of the plugs, or a transformer (converter will probably be cheaper) you should be able to charge it with no problem."

Are they just trying to sell me their international charger?

My solution

240-100 VAC input
12VDC output @1A

Then plug car charger into it.
Using a splitter like this.

Can power 2 Garmins using their own car charger cables.

Most

Most appliance chargers now days say 100-240V. All that say that will work in Europe. You just need to get an adapter for the plug in that will fit the country you are going.

We have gone several times and this works great. Electric shavors have been this way for a while.
It looks like most everything is this way for now.

I researched this before we went to Europe the first time and all has worked great. My charger for the Nuvi 750 has interchangable ends and worked great at each country. Wish it would fit my new Nuvi 2450!!!

Your adapters should work

Sounds like Garmin is trying to sell you something you don't need. If you have adapters that you know fit over there you should be all set. The charger specs indicate that it can accept the higher voltage there. To see if you have the right plug adapter check here (they do vary by country):
