Garmin 1490 Bluetooth doesn't work

Does anyone have a Nuvi 1490 where the Bluetooth connects to their phone in the way described on the owner's manual?

Occasionally this unit of mine will load the phone numbers from my favorites list, but most of the time it downloads nothing. It will answer the phone when a call comes in, but without the phone numbers it can't I'd the caller.

I've had this 1490 for a couple of years, and every time I try something new I find a new set of issues, so I keep going back to the 1490.

.

The 1490 had many problems with Bluetooth, particularly with phone book transfer. See this POI Factory Nuvi 1490 thread for some possible workarounds. When I owned a 1490, they worked for me...

My Motorola Wing from T-Mobile never connected reliably to my 1490. I would drop the Wing from the 1490 phone list and re-pair it over and over again. I just gave up after a while. Finally, the Wing bit the dust and I was "forced" to purchase a Samsung Galaxy S3. This new phone connects to the 1490 every single time.

While I can't be certain where the weakness lies, I can only assume that the Wing, along with other older phones, have some sort of Bluetooth issue that prevents them from reliably connecting to the 1490.

There may be an issue with the version of Bluetooth each device is running. I haven't checked, but since the Galaxy connects every time, I don't need to know what version each is running.

not all phones work with the 1490

Although I have a low end phone, but an older one worked fine with it.
