Simulating a route on a 2595?

I'm stuck.

I disabled the Junction View file on my new 2595 (because I don't like JV) and wanted simulate a route through a local interchange so I can confirm the file has been disabled and doesn't mess up the map display.

I can't figure out how to move my vehicle to where I want to start the simulation. All I seem to be able to do is leave my car at the current real location and drive to the point I'd like to start from. I haven't had this problem with my other units, so I'm stuck.

The full manual says nothing about this, or at least not that I've found.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Simulate a route from Garmin Help

How do I simulate a route on my nuvi 2405, 2505, 3400, or 3500 series device?

Simulating a route allows you to see how the unit will navigate you without actually driving the route. To simulate a route, follow these steps:

Touch Settings on the main menu
Touch Navigation
Scroll down
Touch GPS Simulator to add a check mark in the box
Touch OK to save the changes
With the GPS Simulator on, you may now use the nuvi to simulate a route to a given destination. If you would like to simulate a route from a different starting point than your current location, following the steps below after turning the simulator on:

Start from the main menu
Touch Where To?
Find and touch the desired starting point (Address, Point of Interest, City, etc..)
Touch the info button (lower-case i)
Scroll down
Touch Set Location
The device will now indicate that your current location is that of the location entered in step two. To simulate a route from that set location, return to the main menu and enter in the destination. When asked if you would like to simulate driving the route, touch Yes.

If maps of an overseas continent are loaded to the unit, the device will not fully calculate the route. It will attempt the calculation and then return a message: Cannot Calculate Route. To simulate a route in another continent, set your location to a point on the continent first.

WOW

Thank you Charles. Certainly not the highly detailed instructions I expected. I appreciate your time.

I was thinking there was a way to scroll to where you wanted to place yourself in the simulation and then pick another location to "go" to. Ah well.

I simply added two waypoints on either side of an interchange and using your directions, accomplish exactly what I need.

You can...

Press View Map, then scroll to where you want to start and touch the screen. The street name will appear at the bottom in a grey rectangle. Press the rectangle, then the Set Location button. Finally, scroll to where you want to end, touch the screen and then the Go! button.

EDIT: If your 2595 goes to sleep, simulation mode is turned off and you will have to turn it on again sad

Ah ha!

Thanks WAAS. That is exactly what I was looking for. I must have been missing a step somewhere, but that is what I was wanting to do.
