TourGuide Problem on 1490t

Can someone duplicate this problem?
Where to?>Extras>Custom POIs>Select an entry from a TourGuide File.>Save
The 1490 responds with "Saved to Favorites"- Click OK
Then go back to starting page.
Where to?>Favorites
When I click on Favorites, that location is just off the coast of Africa. The wrong location also shows up in Recently Found. My 295 does not duplicate the error.

Where did you get the tourguide?
How was tourguide loaded?
Was same thing done to both GPSrs
What is the POI location selected that causes the problem?
a. can you give address?
b. coordinates?

Have you tried to just put the coordinates in the GPS like you would for address to see if you get same results? How about sending from Google maps to GPS?

All my files are from here.

I have McDonalds, Wal_Mart and Sam's club. Then I use EPE to create the tourguides. Then I use POI loader for everything. Both GPSs use the same files. All locations produce an incorrect long/lat when saved from extras to favorites.
Here is just one example

"cockpit" error?

Bob,

How do you have EPE set up? Make certain when the file reads into EPE the correct coordinates shown. In all actuality, there is no need to convert the files to GPX before making them into a tourguide file, all you need to do is add TourGuide to the name and you will get a default 400 meter distance.

The normal defaults for CSV and GPX should handle the conversion with no problem but if you have changed the M-Column assignments it can cause problems. Try loading the output GPX back into EPE and see if it's OK. The location you show is 0,0 which means you aren't transferring the coordinates between the files correctly.

Thanks BC

I loaded the McDonalds GPX file back into EPE. All long/lats are correct... I never have a problem when I navigate to any TourGuide location, because all locations are correct on my 1490t extras folder. (I can do a screen shot). I do not use default proximity for any of my TourGuide
Any POI, either the built-in ones or any non TourGuide can be saved directly into favorites with no errors.
It appears to me that when I save TourGuide locations into favorites, my 1490 is changing the degrees in front of the decimal to zero.
I can do a work around. But I like the idea of saving various McDonalds to favorites on trips for easy routing on each leg of a trip.

I did a hard reset

Reset. Then Transfered my local McDonalds from extras to Favorites.

so it's a garmin

screw up in transferring from a GPX to favorites on he 1490. Like you, I convert CSV files to GPX, but I break them down and move data around to control how the POI is displayed on the screen for my 885 and set the proximity distance. I normally don't transfer a lot of things to favorites because it is a bit of a hassle to have to edit the locations from only the device screen. I load over 170,000 custom locations every week in less than 2 minutes because the different alert distances are stored in the GPX so it runs on AUTO.

Having trouble...

Having trouble seeing how this can be a gpx problem. Maybe it is a POI Loader problem, but once POI Loader has massaged it, I can not see how whether it came from a .csv or .gpx file would make a difference.

Sometimes the best way to understand what is going on is to simplify.

A good debugging technique at this point might be to select just several of the McDonalds, put them in a new .gpx file in a newly named folder and run POI Loader pointing it to that newly named folder.

Then go to the Custom POIs and find one of those newly loaded McDonalds and look at the "Map" before doing the "Save".

I wonder what you will find?

I would be interested in what you find.

Not on 1450T

FYI ...

I could not reproduce your problem doing the following tests.

Tried it with 'McD's file as a csv with no alert, along the road alert and Tourguide alert. Then did all 3 tests again with McD file as a GPX file setting the alert distance in EPE. All 6 tests saved the POI location correctly to my Favorites.

Tried it also with my HD file which is a 2 mile Tourguide gpx file and it saved the locations properly also.

Running the latest FW and maps on the 1450LMT.

I saved the McD file as csv. Then ran the poi loader in manual, setting the distance as 600 feet. That works. Not what I want though.

This method still saves the favorites in the Atlantic Ocean.
I started over. Downloaded all my favorite files from POI_FACTORY again. Everything works fine until I use EPE to set the proximity, saving as GPX, so I can use POI Loader in express mode.
.. We have no long trips scheduled until June, so I have some more time to work on this. AND, I still have a good attitude. LOL

How do you have EPE configured?

Your Preferences should show Imperial/US for the editor but CSV read and save should be Metric.

AARRG

After many months, my problem reared its ugly head again.

Quote:

I select a TourGuide location in extras, then save that location to Extras. When I >goto > favorites, that location is now off the coast of Africa at Long 0 & Lat 0. When goto > Recently found, the selection is OK. And the location in Extras is still OK.

Bear007 solved my problem by emailing a screen shot of his EPE settings. Lucky for me, I saved the attachment.

Trying to understand TourGuide

Maybe I have this all wrong.

Can I take POI's from various POI files, such as restaurants, Triple-D, Fuel stops etc and make a TourGuide to fit my route from Detroit to Laredo?

Would I have to separate POI's and then eventually use EPE to merge them all into one?

it can be done

It can be done with EPE. However, I would caution against creating such a tour guide POI. After a few hundred kilometers you will get awful tired of the nagging about this and or that nearby. I usually just search for a stop of whatever I need along my route. That way we maintain peace in the car because I then don't have two voices nagging me about announcements.

Thank you for your advice, I will heed it and just use POI points and search for what I want when I want.

Additionally it will probably save me many hours of frustrating work trying to do the TourGuide.
