That LMT Again:

Hi Everyone, Im not the bearer of bad news, just a guy who brings you the bumps in the gps roads.I journeyed to the dentist 17 miles away, and my unit sent me in widespread tarffic areas, only to reach my destination entering the backstreets. My tomtom xxl 540 was so spot on and simple straightforward.I know i can erform a detour on my streetpilot if i dont like the route.

Question. Can i change route to other if i dont like the lmt direction with simulation.

2.My 1490 Lmt has to continuously draw maps as it turns by 2 seconds.

3.My Lmt loses 3-5 seconds to recalculate after i have gone straight. She still calls out the right turn, then realizes i have gone straight, then recalculates.

4.My tomtom xxl 540 is intantaneously automatic.

5. Can i resolve this bumps, or do i live with it. The higher garmin goes up the worse the bumps are.

Why cant garmin sum up all their best functions from every unit and create the best intelligent gps. I am yet to see a five start gps unit. Everytime you include a function, you create a new model for it.wow.

That Lmt again

Sorry Folks, just have to spill it out.

reminds me when i was younger and bought all those LP records, there was 20 songs with only 1 one good song, and it hit the charts and sold a million. I wonder if that the gps trend.

My navigon would create a route and give you 3 three choices, green, yellow, blue, and you chose the shortest way, or best way.

just get rid of the Garmin if you prefer the tomtom

If you find the tomtom you already own that much better than the Garmin just get rid of the Garmin and just go with, from what you describe, the very superior tomtom unit.

I have a Garmin 3790LMT and do not find any of the problems you are having with the 1490LMT you have.

Sir,i was just having a chit-chat and there was no need to be sarcastic with your comment.

with whom?

Your posts were more of a rant about your unit not doing the things your Tom-Tom and Navigon could do. And it would be more beneficial both to you and to those you are asking for assistance if you mentioned the model unit you are having issues with. LMT means this particular unit is equipped with lifetime maps and a traffic receiver.

@ Box Car

The op did mention that it is a 1490 in paragraph # 2.

I'm still convinced that some models are having problems routing with the 2013.10 map. It's like my 660 doesn't check all possible routes available and it goes with the first route it computes. Very aggravating when it wants you to go a way that you absolutely know is not the best way.

I've seen routing improvements with a new map before, but this last release is a few steps backwards.

That lmt again

ok boxcar, if you had taken the time to see above where I edited my statement and added garmin 1490 Lmt, maybe you would not be so quick to defend a freindly exchange. I recall hundreds of posts ago and no one ever slapped anyone in the face with rhetoric, only friendly answers.Instead of being critical which im not, just add it to the garmin engineers for inclusion or review.I may be a green horn to you or a newbie, but I have garmin products all lined up on my desk.Even if I dont parse my questions properly, maybe you can be big enough to take the sense out of nonesense if thats what you think. There is something called typographical errors and ommissions......and forgetfullness. If you all took it the wrong way then i appologise to you for not being grammatically inclined. case close.

3790LMT

I had problems with my 3790LMT and it was exchanged by Garmin.

The previous 3790LMT using the 2012.4 mapping did some horrible routing for me. As an example south of Nuevo Laredo it would have me go toward the Atlantic ocean coast and then return me about 50 miles south of the point I was at before, adding at least 200 miles to the trip.

Now I must say the replacement unit with the 2013.10 mapping is performing nicely. The one criticism I do have is that I can not do a 2,600 mile route at once, I have to break it up into a minimum of two segments. If I try to do the 2,600 mile route at once it just comes up with an error that there are too many way points. My actual entered way points are no more than 12 for the whole route.

My older Nuvi 855 would do the whole route at once, no problem.

@gpsdog

I have to say, I'm not sure why you are feeling so insulted.

No one said anything that was remotely sarcastic, and they have been stating facts. Period.

I'm not hyper-sensitive, and don't get butt-hurt over insignificant things.

That said, I'm sure you'll take umbrage to this post as well.

I had read your post just after you originally posted it and the model number was not present. I had to go to your contact info to see you had a 1490 and decided not to answer your post until you had taken umbrage at the earlier responder.
