Is It Just Recently That The Garmin Blog Has Been Discussing Navigon?

I guess it has been a year now since Garmin Acquired Navigon, but I have just started to notice references to Navigon on the Garmin Blog. Does anybody have any thoughts if they will continue to offer products under both names? Is Garmin better known in the US and Navigon better known in Europe (or specifically Germany)?

sort of...

I think the Garmin folks that run the blogs have finally come to understand that Navigon is in the family, and coverage of things has been more recently, but has been going on since early this year.

Personally, Garmin should keep their name on hardware - and pare back their mobile apps to just Navigon.

I believe that Navigon GPS units (not their phone apps) are no longer sold in North America but are in Europe. Navigon did sell devices in NA for a few years but pulled out a few years ago.

Navigon stopped selling their PND products completely because Garmin bought them out: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2386906,00.asp

I'm pretty sure this is where Garmin got all of their photoreal junction view data from. It was always known that Navigon had quite a database of junction view images, quite a lot more than Garmin did.

There was a Navigon arrow

There was a Navigon arrow update available for my 3950LMT today via the Webupdater.

what is a "Navigon arrow update"? Is it a Garmin vehicle icon borrowed from Navigon?

Could be but the link you refer to is dated 2011 and they still seem to have a lot of new models on their website:

http://www.navigon.com/portal/int/produkte/navigationssystem...

They stopped selling in North America in 2009. See http://www.gpsbusinessnews.com/NAVIGON-stops-PND-business-in...

Yes. This was released at about the same time that v7.10 for the 34xx was released. It's a yellow arrow pointer with a translucent circle around the pointer. I tried it but the color of it allows it to get lost in the map. I reverted back (again) to my original blue pointer that came with my nuvi 350. I've used it on all my units. The current blue arrow pointer has an odd white border around it when the night color scheme kicks on. Never liked it.

I thought the white border was so the icon didn't get lost at night? I know the default car has that border.

That's apparently why the white border is there. I've never had a problem with the original blue icon with no white border getting lost in nite mode. For some reason, that white border just bugs me. mrgreen

I did have a problem with that monstrously large car that Garmin put in the 2x0 units. That's why I was thankful I could download Garmin Mobile XT from their site, extract its car from the zip file and replace my car with it. I remember asking about the white ring around the car when I did it though, because I was expecting to have just the car. grin

I wonder if a shade of gray would work better than white for the "ring around the car".
