Editing the address of a favorite

Is it safe to say that the only way to change the address of a favorite once saved is to delete it and start over? After much searching, that is the conclusion with which I am left. Is there any other way anyone knows? Thanks.

No Other Way

You CANNOT edit the address. When you entered the address the Nuvi calculated a route to it.
If you made a mistake on one of the numbers in the address you must create a new favorite and delete the old. If you enterd additional information to the old favorite, you will have to enter it again in the new address.

Edit

Once the favorite is entered, we can change several features, but not the address. Editing the address would not change the lat/long.

If I am standing in an area and I save the position where I am standing, can I see the latitude and the longitude once it is saved? Thank you.

Yes. Some models has the

Yes. Some models has the where am I and most all you can touch the vehicle and save as a favorite. Then just edit it.

Another step required

I just did this on my 765T. Note that we used to say that [garmin nuvi]:\Garmin\GPX\current.gpx was an "Output" only file. That is no longer true. So long as the date/time stamp on the current.gpx file is later than the date/time associated with the last boot of the nuvi, the nuvi will read the current.gpx file and compare the entries with what is stored in memory. If it finds an entry with the same name, it will add the duplicate from the changed current.gpx file to the current.gpx file it is outputting upon startup. However, it will add a "1" to the name of the new favorite.

So, to change the address of a Favorite, attach the nuvi to your computer. Run EPE. Point EPE to the [Garmin nuvi] drive and open [Garmin nuvi]:\Garmin\GPX\current.gpx.

Find the favorite you wish to change the address. Double chick on that entry to open the Edit dialog. Change the address, then click the geocoding button to move the pointer; then, click the "Grab" button to change the coordinates. File > Save.

In order to "safely disconnect", you must "open" another file in EPE to release the lock on current.gpx. So, open a file on your computer and then simply "x" out of EPE.

Safely disconnect; let the nuvi boot, go to Favorites to find the new favorite with a "1" appended to the name.

Delete the old favorite by Tools > [down arrow] > My Data > Delete Favorite(s) and scroll to the old favorite. Put a check in the box next to it and click the the "Delete" button that appeared when you clicked it. Answer Yes to delete. Go back to the menu.

Where To? > Favorites and scroll to the new favorite. Select that favorite. Click Edit > Change Name and then backspace to remove the "1".

Interesting Exercise

Turn on your device after it has lost satellites.

Tools > Where Am I?

Now watch as the device acquires statlites and alters the "My Location" data as its accuracy improves.

I have noticed that before. The more bars you get the better the accuracy.

wow

isn't it easier just to delete and resave?

Easier step for me.

I use Mapsource on my pc to transfer favorites. Then I can edit any or all of the features. Then transfer back to unit. DONE!
The same named waypoint now appears on the unit with the new address.

I use google maps

Just put in the address you want and send it to the gps, when the screen comes up to send it, you can edit the info by clicking in it , blue it out, channge the info you want and send it to the garmin.

Those are exactly my thoughts, you don't even have to connect to the PC to create a new one.

If the address you typed in is wrong then delete and re-enter.
If the address is correct but the geocode is way off then the best way is the way jgerrman listed. This way the address is correct ant the geocode is now "more" correct. You are changing and fine tuning the location as we do in the way we maintain the poi files.
