Unable to unlock maps

Hi Everyone , Admin and other Hi ranking Members.

I decided last night to install the other continuous USA Maps onto my Micro/sd card. I used map install to chose all other states, and after found device it sent all to my mcSD card via the gps unit. I did not copy and paste neither did I use any other map but the present legal paid 2013.10 maps from Garmin. When all was finished it said it was successfully sent to my card. Searched My COmputer and saw my 2 hard drives, and voila it placed it in the map folder of the card. So I ejected safely and started my unit.......only to be greeted by "cannot unlock Maps".I researched Garmin FAQs and saw the same question posed.I redownloaded everything, and only to be had the same issue. I went to garmin life time updater and re done all procedures with same failure. Garmin said to update Map updater to 3.1.2, but same issue.Covertly all new full USA maps went to the card safely, but it removed my Gmapprom folder and i guess all was changed to gmapsupp.img. Still same issues and now i have hit a brick wall. Help me pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee.

I think

I think at this point you should look for a solution to your issue from Garmin. Call them at there US support numbers:

US: 913-397-8200
US Toll Free: 1-800-800-1020

Unable to Unlock Map problems are rarely something that can be solved through a forum like this as there are just to many things that could be the cause of the problem. Garmin's support people deal with these issues all the time and can even look at your Nuvi via your computer if you allow them to. You could spend days and weeks going back and forth here when a half hour call to Garmin could solve the problem for you.

I had the same problem.

I solved my problem by just copying the UNL file from my main unit and putting it in the garmin folder on the SD card.. Just make sure the UNL file is named the same as the map file on the SD card.. That worked for me.. The UNL file that mapsource created when you transferred it to your unit should be the same file that unlocks the map on the SD card...

Call Garmin

I agree with t923347 that a call to Garmin would yield the fastest results.

I hope you followed Craigw's advice in your first post since it's something everybody should do to avoid problems.
