In danger of losing your windmill?
Maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive.

Storage Wars

ryten wrote:

Drove down to San Luis Obispo to store daughter's furniture from her apartment in one of those storage locker places. I could not believe how much you can stuff into a 5' by 10' by 10' high space. We put a 6' couch, loveseat, mattress, desk, dresser, lamps, and a lot of boxes.

Check out the TV series Storage Wars and see what they see in storage lockers. Interesting what some people store, then stop paying for the locker.

Toured & camped northern Michigan for a week

My sister flew up to OH & then was driven to Petoskey MI, to get away from the heat & smoke of NM. I picked her up in Petoskey & we spent the next 10 days touring the area, camping as we went. My new-ish TomTom got a real workout as we went back & forth over the area. Sis was sold on this kind of GPS & now wants one of her own for getting around NM. The only problem I had was returning her to her son in Cleveland. The TomTom suddenly got very slow in updating positions after turns on closely-packed city streets the night I was there, exhibited very long delays before it corrected the location display. I had to turn on my laptop & run Streets & Trips with a laptop GPS receiver to get out of Cleveland. Acted up just when I needed it most.

I was just in Toledo this morning, maybe we passed? Coming back from Detroit now, stopped to eat and heading back to PA.

Refurb arrived

Just got my 3760 replacement unit on Friday - Garmin customer support was great - I noticed that the internal screen laminations were separating while on vacation. They covered the replacement under warranty even though I was 2 months out. Kudos to Garmin's customer support.

It seems to me that certain sections or departments of Garmin have outstanding service, whereas others totally stink. It looks like hardware problems are handled much better than software or help desk problems.

Please correct me if I am mistaken.

David - You are spot on - it's a crap shoot but fortunately I have had consistently good service. What usually works is if you get someone that gives you an undesired result - hang up and call back to get someone else. Alternatively I have had the best success through email support. I did both for my recent issue - the guy on the phone wanted to charge me for out of warranty but through email they honored the repair even though the warranty was expired by 2 months.

Perfect Trip with 2595 LMT

Boston > Lake George, NY > Boston

Flawless performance. Even the traffic updates were timely and I used the auto-reroute/detour feature to get around one construction site we encountered en-route. The performance of the unit has improved with each firmware update, especially the quick search feature. Both speed and functionality have shown marked improvement but it still needs some work when you have entered a full street, city and state address. Speech recognition has the same problem: it does fine with short local searches or POI's, but never seems to get the city and state commands correct.

Another slow week....

just local trips. Did download and install updates to the POIs we use the most smile

Our Last Travel

From Washington, DC to Bar Harbor ME & return.

Weather there was fabulous. No 100 degree temps with matching humidities.

Methinks the Maine coast will be even more popular if climate change for the warmer is really happening long term.

Pigeon Forge

Just got back from a week that included 3 days in Pigeon Forge. The resort we stayed at said "don't use your GPS to find us. They don't work in the mountains." Well, I did find them using the GPS, and it does work in the mountains. I think they were thinking of cell phones. Cell phone was unreliable.

I took mine to Minneapolis and would have been lost without it.
Met my son and grandson there and went to the museum and a few casinos. Never would have found them on my own.

Baltimore and back

Made a trek via I95 south of Baltimore and back. Google nav app performed well, no issues with it. Traffic was steady but moving well both ways, though there was some congestion at the tunnel. Clear weather helped to make this a pleasant trip.

Refurb update

just thought I would report out after having my refurb unit for a about a week and a half. So far my it is performing well. It even appears to be performing better as I noticed this one does not hesitate on the screen taps. My other one used to not respond to the taps; it would recognize that the screen was touched over a button but I would have to hit it 3 or 4 times before it would act. My new one does not do this. It also appears to not hesitate when updating the screen while driving. I like this one better.

Short trips galore!

Well -- my wife got sick about three months ago, and I had to quit doing (big truck) OTR jobs. Now I simply shuttle back and forth from our terminal 13 miles to the plant. Oh well.

Yesterday, I went on teh longest trip in that three months -- 150 miles each way. It seemed to take FOREVER! LOL!

Boston > Portland, ME > Freeport, ME > return

Flawless performance.

I'm running v7.10 on my 2595 and noticed some jerkiness on the map that I hadn't noticed before. I also noted the the numerals on the Trip Computer are blurry. The pixels on the bottom half of all the numerals are screwed up and it makes them look blurry.

Looks like Garmin will need another FW release or two to clean everything up.

central Illinois ---> St. Louis and back

Down to St. Louis to see my newlywed brother and his wife. Hadn't been up in the Arch since I was in high school (some 20 odd years ago). Following day at Six Flags. We broiled down there but the kids had fun and since it was a Monday the lines for the rides thinned out to nothing after about noon or so. Garmin 50LM performed like a champ. GPS and Priceline/Hotwire are two of my favorite tools for traveling! grin

Just made my first POI file on Excel, mapping out E85 gas stations that I will need for an upcoming business trip from Illinois to Michigan. Thanks charlesd45 for your handy post on how to do this! I'll upload it tonight and see if everything worked.

Yes indeed
