Downloaded POI's

I've downloaded several POI's. I driven by many of these places that I have downloaded and the place is not showing up on the map. What am I doing wrong?

Custom poi's don't show on the map.

You have to add icon (bitmaps) to them.

Lets start with...Have you backed up your gps?

Then look at "how to add icons and sound.

first off

Welcome to the site.

As you are a new member, look through our FAQs and perform the new user exercises.

Then look for the tutorials on installing POI. This gives us a point of reference as you state nothing about what you have done to load the POI or your level of experience.

In order for POI locations to display anything other than a dot, you need an icon or BMP file that's 24x24 pixels in size. The POI Loading tutorials will tell you how these are loaded and how to set both an alert sound and distance to trigger the display. The other piece of information is in order for just the icon (or dot) to appear, you need to be really zoomed in in your map display. And we mean really zoomed in to around 300 feet or less.

Setting an alert or proximity distance will allow the icon to be displayed at much further distances, that's also covered in the tutorials.

Good luck, and welcome to the site.

Welcome to the site.

As indicated above, you need icons (.bmp) for some visual image of where the POI is. However, even with an icon, you need to be zoomed in to, say, 200 ft, for them to show up.

Not sure about your 50, but my 765T shows a black dot for any custom POI file which does not have an icon associated with it.

By the way, if you are going to add icons and sounds then do this exercise to make sure the settings on your computer are appropriate.
