I have set mine on shortest distance.
My route preference is set on "faster time". I tried "shortest distance" before, but I didn't like the routes it would take me. Mostly side streets and not the freeway. I prefer to utilize the freeways whenever possible.
Since it's so easy to change, when I'm just driving locally in the Daytona Beach Local area, I set mine to shortest to take advantage of back roads which typically avoids many lights !
On longer trips I always set "Lila" to fastest.
Just finishing up a 3300 mile 2 week trip (in SC as I type-heading home).
"Lila" had a serious miscue today - dumped me off an exit early to get to my hotel! I slapped her around a little !
Hey, you're lucky you didn't get ticketed by highway patrol for GPS abuse. That's an automatic $500 fine.
Mine is on best time and saving time for real....
I set mine in Fastest time.
In the car I use Fastest route.
Om my motorcycle I usually choose shortest distance and set the preferences to avoid highways.
Mine is set to "faster time"
I choose the PRONTO way or the speedy gonzales way!
Well I'll be leaving for Beverly, MA but I wish it was for a good reason. My grandmother is in the hospital on life support.
Well I tend to go the fastest way but I have a set route I go when I go to the east cost. I usually take I-80 all the way through IN, OH and part of PA then take Scranton and pick up some route which at the moment I can't remember what it is. I like its like 81 or so.
Usually if I don't no the area I have the garmin tell me where to go (I'm use to people telling me where to go anyways).
Sure wish you the best, MickeyMouse00. Drive safe.
...on the current gas price in CA, now it's set to shortest distance and it seems to help a little at the pump. Pretty soon we'll all be walking or riding a bicycle with a GPS mount on it and they will all be set to shortest distance!
I use Faster Time.
I have found that Quickest setting try's to take me down streets that dead end alot.
Sometimes when I change the setting to shortest, the time difference ends up only being 3min... 8)
When I'm in my semi, I always use faster time. It seems to avoid the smaller streets where big trucks are not viewed favorably.
i set mine on the fastest route .
fastest and avoid tolls, but i learned the hard way to uncheck avoid tolls otherwise it can be horribly long
i am looking for software that is for semi truck routes.. i have the c330 model. have you found anything like this?
I always go the fastest route in the garmin set up. It is without side streets and other delays
Under Navigation, I have Avoid Traffic, Unpaved Roads and U-Turns.
I occasionally check to avoid Ferry, if I am headed south to the DelMarVa area. I do not want to take the Cape May Ferry!
i always go for the fastest route i advoid u turns thats about it
c330,magellan meridian color
Mostly, I use the shortest route. However, in towns I like the fastest route. Jill has taken me through some pretty seedy areas of some towns using the shorest route. Just cannot trust her at times. The fastest route in a town is usually on major roads. Whereas, the shortest route is through back streets and what not. The other day Ms Jill routed me through an open drug market. Not fun!
Same problem here with shortest distance, it sent me on a street that goes thru a gated community and despite the fact that it is the shortest distance to my daughter's house the gate is closed 99% of the time.
on mine i set shortest distance
just use the defaults.
Avoid U-turns and unpaved roads.
I have tried both shortest and fastest. The shorter route brings you through many streets with stop signs and stop lights. this takes more time, burns more gas and is more dangerous in many ways as previously mentioned. Fastest route, avoid toll roads and no u turns works best for me.
I chose quickest route most time. It works better for me.
Faster Time --> in a Long Trip
Shortest Distabce --> in a Short Trip
I just go with the Defaults.
I'm new at GPS action, and I have not ventured past the defaults yet, and from what I've just read about the "shortest-route" being somewhat prone to pitfalls... I'm staying with the defaults for now.
Mine is set for the shortest time. Before it was set this way, I found myself not using the parkways and had to stop for many traffic lights.
<-- fastest, but which vehicle are you using? Car/ Motorcycle, Emergency, Truck?. . .
That is what I use, the car one, since I am in a car. Truck wouldn't allow me on side streets (I am guessing here) or other small areas that I can move a round in just fine with a car.
Never tried distance, will have to see what the difference is as far as routing.
I set mine to the quickest route. Sometimes the shortest distance takes longer since it doesn't take into account traffic lights, etc.
I'm set to Faster Time but sometimes faster time takes you places you normally wouldn't go. I was told to go through a neighborhood where the speed limit is 20 but instead I went around on a more major street where the speed is 40. Its difficult find the perfect route since the speed for every road is unknown but 99% of the time "Faster Time" works great.
I set mine to fastest most of the time
Mine is set to quickest. I have not tried the shortest but I think it would take to much time going thru all the traffic lights and traffic here in San Diego.
When driving long distances, its economical to avoid back roads and mainly stay on the Highway. If traveling local, its set to fastest. Sometimes I'll switch between the two when I get closer to my destination...
Just be sure if you're in New Orleans to allow U-turns! Otherwise you'll never get there...
I use the fastest. Sometimes the shortest takes longer.
When driving in the car, I have it set for the faster time. When in the air, I have it set for off-road.
I always use the quickest time.
Most do quickest, why did you pick shortest? Not that you are wrong, just wondering why you choose shortest.
