POI and red light file

Newbie question, I just installed the redlight cam file using poi loader on my garmin 2555,
I plan on adding new locations to the file,
When i come to install the updated file will it automatically overwrite the existing file, or Do I erase the existing POI file then install the new updated file, Thanks in advance
PS. I will be posting the updated location for NJ

Welcome

Welcome to the site.

Since you are new, you may want to do a couple of the Beginner Exercises.

To make it easy, when you click on the first link below, hold down the "Cntl" key as you left-click. That will open a new "Tab" in your browser in the "Tab" bar. Click on that 'Tab" to do the first exercise - leaving the "Tab" you are now reading open and available to click on and return here.

The first link makes sure settings on your computer are such that you can do more advanced POI loading.

This next link helps you get a backup by attaching your GPS to your computer. (NEVER do anything to your GPS until you have a backup)

Now, to answer your specific question about POI Loader: POI Loader lets you choose the name of the .gpi file that it will create. On the fourth screen you put a name of your choosing into the field next to "Choose a name for the newly created POI file:" If you choose the same name that you previously chose, that .gpi file in the [nuvi]:/Garmin/POI folder will be overwritten.

We appreciate people posting new camera locations. However, you must be careful not to mistake a camera used to determine whether or not someone is in a turn lane for an enforcement camera. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6698

Yes when you run Poiloader is will overwrite existing files.

You need to report any new camers you find to the site.So we can all have latest updates.See http://www.poi-factory.com/camera-feedback for reporting them. Also see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 for custom pois.

Make a separate red light camera file for you

Since the POI-Factory Red Light Camera file is updated weekly, I would suggest not adding to it once you download it. With your additional locations, make another Red Light Camera file using a modified filename such as adding a single letter (not a number) to the filename. Keep them both in the same folder on the PC and they will both be loaded by POI Loader every time POI Loader is run, time after time. This is the simplest way to do this, but there are other ways of getting this done that forum participants will tell you about.

For more on how to keep the POI files on the PC see my FAQ -

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30728

Report the locations you found to POI Factory using the link at the top right hand column of this page. Once they appear in the POI Factory file, delete your personal Red Light Camera file from the PC.

After reporting these locations, you will receive an email of thanks from JM or GlobeTurtle, and all of us in the forum appreciate your contribution!
