I have an extra power cord with the traffic antenna built in to it. Can I buy the 2460LM and use the traffic cable to make it a 2460LMT ... or do I actually have to buy the LMT version of the GPS in order for the traffic features to work?
Anyone know for sure? The price diff is $60 and I already have the spare cable.
Use the old cable

The difference between the two is if the traffic cable is included. As you already have a cable, you can use it on any unit that both traffic compatible and uses that model receiver.

Yes indeed

Yes indeed. The important phrase in Box Car's response is the final phrase.
sharper4, can you indicate which model power/traffic receiver you have so that it can be confirmed to work with any of the nuvi 2460xxx models? The nuvi 2460 requires the GTM 35 cord:

If you have a GTM 10 or GXM 30 from your old Street Pilot 7200, then no, your current traffic/power cord will not work with the nuvi 2460xxx.
would work if the traffic receiver is correct with subscription

That would work as long as the traffic receiver cord it compatible with your Garnin model and the cord has an active traffic subscription or you will need to purchase a subscription in addition to make it work.

When you plug in your cord
If you see the traffic icon pop up on your screen, you are good to go, and saved yourself $60!
Hopefully it is compatible, Garmin changes the cable every few years.
I don't know the cable model
I don't know the cable model number off the top of my head but the cable does provide traffic on a 255 and 2555 unit. I'm looking at a 2460.
Interesting

That's interesting. According to Garmin, the GTM 35 you need for a 2460 uses the same traffic/power cord as the 255 but is different from the one used by the 2555.
Well you just blew my
Well you just blew my confidence but I know I took the cord I had been using with the 255 and plugged it into the 2555 - and got traffic.
I bought the 2460 and will let you guys know in a few days when it arrives. We'll see.
You should be fine
I think you should be fine. Chances are your cord is a GTM-25 or maybe a GTM-26 or GTM-35 and all of these will work on a 2460.
I've even plugged these (GTM-25/-26/-35) in a 3490 and they all worked.
Whew - you just gave me my

Good to know. I was worried that the plug from the cable wouldn't match the socket on the nuvi or its cradle.
FYI on GTM-60

FYI on this: The 24x5, 25x5, 34xx and 35xx come with the GTM-60 HD Digital traffic receiver, which operates on HD Radio. But these Nuvis are still compatible with the standard FM radio traffic receivers GTM-25/26/35.
However, the GTM-60 is not compatible with anything other than the devices listed above (unless Garmin decides to add this functionality to the older units' firmware in the future).

Good thought. Fortunately the plug on all of the GTM-25/26/35/60 is a Mini-B USB plug.
GTM 20?
...

My nuvi 750 and 855 use a GTM 20 traffic/power cord which looks to use a nonstandard connector and maybe is Garmin-specific. True?
It's good to know that newer nuvis are becoming a bit more standardized.
Thanks.
GTM 20
No problem. Yes, the GTM 20 looks like it has a special plug.
Starting with the 23xx/24xx series and continuing with the 37xx, 34xx and 35xx, the powered cradle has a standard Mini-B USB socket. An interesting thing about these new powered cradles is if you plug them into your computer and you have the Nuvi mounted, the Nuvi won't go into computer mode. It will just continue to operate like it's in the car.
Btw, you can not use a standard USB extension to the traffic receiver if you decide to mount it in a remote location. To do this, you have to use a special 5-wire USB cable instead.
Garmin Site Confusing
I own a 2460LMT and it came with a GTM35 traffic receiver that connects to the "Powered Mount" via a Mini USB connector.
If you look on your traffic receiver the model should be listed on the portion that plugs into the cigarette lighter.
Looking at the accessory section at Garmin they show the GTM compatible with the 255 but NOT the 2555, they do show it compatible with the 2595LMT.

If you say your traffic connector fits both the 255 and the 2555 then it SHOULD work the 2460. If you can confirm you have the GTM35 cable by looking at it you're good to go.
Only thing I question is that I don't think the 2555 has a powered mount, I have 3 traffic receivers 2) GTM20's and 1 GTM35, they all plug into a powered mount.

Interesting
That's interesting that the 2555 doesn't show as a compatible device for the GTM 35, but the 2495 and 2595 do and the OP tried his old receiver on the 2555 and it worked. I think it probably does work and that table just isn't up to date.
The 24x5 and 25x5 series don't have a powered cradle. The traffic receiver plugs into the mini USB connector right on the back of the unit. The 34xx and 35xx series have a micro USB connector on the unit instead, so the traffic receiver must be plugged into the cradle.
Good to know!

Probably Table Not Conclusive

Reading that then the cable he has should work since it's a mini usb connector on the unit.
The only difference I see is that he will have to plug the traffic cable into the powered mount on the 2460 rather than the unit.
The 2460 has a micro USB on the unit which is only used to connect to PC, a stingy one at that, only about 18 inches long.

So I promised an update on
So I promised an update on this.
The 255W and the 2460 models both uses a GTM-35.
The 2555 uses a GTM-60 model ... but for whatever reason I was shipped a GTM-25 model cable. I contacted the buyer about the mishap but I did discover that all the units work with either of these cords just fine. Hopefully I'll soon have a GTM-60 cable that works with the 2555 unit which will upgrade me to the HD traffic... whatever that really offers me. The difference in the cables is the ability to get the HD traffic, that's all, it appears.
