EPE

Just downloaded, installed, and started playing with Extra-POI-Editor.

Looks great, but after I closed it out, my 'puter ground to a crawl. Even after 5-10 minutes, the process was still active and on the top of the list for memory usage.

I had to manually stop the process.

Yes my 'puter is old and underpowered anyway, but is this normal?

Gateway.

Wow, now there is a brand I haven't thought about for a while. I bought tons of them for my former employer before I retired.

No, EPE should not cause that problem. I would try a reboot to make sure all the right versions of DLL's get loaded, then try EPE again. If you still have the problem post back here and maybe Turboccc will pop in and offer some advice.

Still crazy....

Yeah, they used to be the best.

I did this just now. Even 10 minutes after I closed out the program, the process was still active and generating memory usage and page faults.

I love the program, but guess I'll have to reboot after I use it.

I thought I could duplicate your problem on an old Dell with XP SP3... but after about 20 seconds, EPE ended (finally).

As a workaround, you could try v4.88. It exits immediately after you close it. Download link:

Oh yeah...

Much better. Thanks.

I'm typing this on my old Gateway right now (2006 with an AMD 1.8 gig Turion). It has XP Pro SP3, and I run the current EPE with no problems at all. How strange.

Curious indeed.

XP Pro vs Home?

@David King: You're welcome. Is your XP system Pro or Home?

@Juggernaut: The Dell I tested with was 2005 vintage running XP Home with SP3. IIRC, EPE also ran with no problems at all on my other senior system with XP Pro. It's not available at the moment to confirm the theory.

I didn't find anything on minimum specs other than graphics card. But you're specs could be to low for it to function. Just a thought.

Not Enough Memory

David King wrote:

That's most likely the problem. When I launch EPE v5.33 it immediately grabs 422 MB. Your system is probably thrashing.

I emailed Turboccc a while

I emailed Turboccc a while back on this.He suspects once he added the circles it uses more cpu.

Problem is also on Windows 7

If you simply start EPE and exit, it will take about 25 seconds to terminate. Not a biggie, but something is looping (EPE uses up all of one processor)

Never noticed this before...

It takes longer on my unit.Maybe a minute or so.Windows XP SP3.Changed to another version after talking to Turboccc and no more problems. Was just bringing up Task Manager and ending the process before.

Sounds like it. Oh well, I don't use it that much anyway. It's bearable.
