Some observations on my refurb 3790LMT purchase a month ago from Walmart, I still am very pleased and would order it again without reservation:
I ordered one on this deal the first time it was offered, the 3790 was as perfect as any of the new Garmins I have bought. All the accessories were the same and all were packaged just like a new one plus all the same paperwork was included the same as a new one. The only difference it was in a blue and white box instead of a blister pack. When I hooked it up all the file structure was as a new unit.
I have seen a number of manufacturer's package brand new excess inventory in a non retail box and unload it as refurb at a big discount. By doing it that way they avoid hard feelings from the retailers that are still selling off their retail packaged inventory. Netgear does that all the time and I only buy refurb from Newegg for wireless routers and print servers.
It works great and I have done all the updates and went online to register it and it registered as a new unit that had not been registered prior. The lifetime traffic worked great and it qualifies for the lifetime map updates. The warranty is the same as a retail packaged unit.
So far I'm very impressed and no doubt it is the best Garmin I have ever owned, has 8GB internal memory and the screen quality is absolutely spectacular compared to my other Garmins. Even in bright sunlight with the top down today I had no trouble seeing the screen clearly.
I found the voice command works way better than my 885T and you do not have to press any buttons to use it, all you do is say "Voice Command" and you are ready to go.
3590 or 3790?
3790 Refurb.
Now that the 3590lmt has been out for a while, has anyone seen a refurb of that model ?
Your post title says 3790, but I suspect you are asking about the 3590? I have not seen any 3590 refurbs, but Amazon and Walmart have had the 3790 in the $150 to $170 range for several months. I have also seen 3490LMT refurbs for ~$270

Bluetooth on 3790
The Bluetooth function on the 3790 works great. I have my smartphone paired with it, and it shows the contacts and searches by voice command. It also shows the caller id info on screen when there's an incoming call.
This is a really great GPS. I'm glad I bought mine "refurbished" from WalMart!
I am certainly enjoying mine

3590lmt
Yes, I did mean the 3590lmt. I actually have a 3790lmt, but wanted some of the "new" features on the 3590lmt.
Most regular retail places are selling the 3590lmt for $379, which is the Garmin MSRP. I'd snap up a refurb unit if I ever see one.
The 3490lmt is around as a refurb as you mentioned. Even BestBuy had one for $269.
Not bad... but I want the slightly larger screen of the 3590.
Thanks.

Good Deal! Thanks for posting
1390LMT Instead
My brother-in-law has a 3790LMT. It is a very nice product. Because The Boss thinks her brother is a gadget nut, I ended up buying the more basic 1390LMT refurb from Wal-Mart for $80 instead. It is half the price, and does what we need. I can still talk to it, it just won't answer me...
3490LMT Refurb $219
I found a refurbed 3490LMT for $219 at TigerGPS.Com.
I can't vouch for how good they are to deal with, but the price is sure cheap enough.
Great price!
That's the best price I have seen for a 3490LMT refurb ... they have been runing about $250 to $270 on the sites I monitor. I have noticed that the 3490 prices (both new and refurb) have been falling recently. Sometimes that is an indication that Garmin is reducing shelf inventory before introduction of new models. But only time will tell on that.

3590lmt refurb
I have seen the 3490lmt listed as a refurb in several places.
But oddly, I have yet to see a refurbed 3590lmt.
I wonder why? Is the 3590 better built, or maybe not as many sold so less being returned ?
It's a bit of a mystery.
release date & sales volume.
I have not seen any 3590 refurbs yet either. My guess it is because the 3590 was released about 3 months after the 3490 and there have probably been fewer sold overall, making fewer returns that become refurbs. I think we will probably start seeing some 3590 refurbs in the next few months.

Refurb 3490lmt at TigerGPS.Com
Well, I went ahead an orderd one of the Refurb 3490LMT from TigerGps thinking ther refurb would be as good as new like they have always been from other places.
NOT !!! They sent me one with a big dent on the back cover. I contacted them immediately and they claim they will exchange it, but ONLY if I ship it back at My expense. The damaged unit had to have been packed in the bos with the damage on it, as the box and packing were in great shape.
So, what I thought was a good deal, turned out NOT to be such a good deal since I have had to pay more money for the unit to exchange it.
It's been a week since I sent it back and I still have not received my replacement.
I can understand having to pay for return shipping if I had changed my mind, but NOT if they shipped me damaged merchandise.
My advice.. STAY AWAY FROM TIGERGPS.COM.
sorry
I would not consider spend $160.00 on a refurbish gps,for that price I will go with a new unit insted of a used one

I guess that depends where you come from. Here in B.C. refurbished must, by law have at least one year warranty.

dents part of this deal--sometimes
I've seen three of the Wal-Mart refurb 3790LMTs purchased within a couple of months of each other around May 2012. Two of the three had obvious dents on the back. It seems likely that there was a source of dented units either in production or elsewhere, and that they were intentionally put into the refurb stream in that period. The third unit arrived without dents.
If a dent on the backside is unacceptable to you, you had probably best either skip this deal or be ready to run a return cycle or two. I in fact turned in my first unit for a refund at Wal-Mart not for the dents but because of another problem. The only cost to me was the drive to the store, and they credited my card promptly. I bought another and have been happy with that one.
The second dented unit I actually bought for a neighbor, who has not detected functional trouble. I'm about to buy a fourth for my wife to use--so despite the dents I still think this is a good deal and a good unit.

Thanks for the insight. I had planned to buy one for my wife as a Xmas gift. So I'll order now in case I need to xchange for a dent free unit
.
Currently she has an older Nuvi without TTS. Plus a bluetooth hands free device clipped to the sun visor. This looks like a good upgrade.
no dents this time
the fourth WalMart refurb 3790LMT I've bought since May 2012 arrived today. This one had no dents on that I can see on reasonably close inspection. It did arrive with the battery reporting itself to be essentially flat, as did at least one of the others. By this I mean that on pulling out the vehicle power cord after a couple of minutes of initial charging the battery level indicator showed a very thin red bar.
Whereas one could easily get to a screen on the 855 showing percent battery charge available, I don't know how to find anything better than the graphic battery level display on the home page of the 3790.
