Need help with a collection of POI's *Travel Guide to the USA*

As of recently, I have been creating my own POI's for a "Travel Guide to the USA" collection. My basic standpoint would be a collection of POI's and then subcategorize them by individual databases. EX: Fastfood, historical spots, museums, toll roads, rest stops, major gas stations, shopping centers, and so forth. I am in need of idea's or idea's of poi's that should be collected in order to have the most appealing database collections. Any idea's would be helpful.

Thanks,
Brandon

This is for non-commerical use. The idea is to make a collection for myself and others for road-trips.

For what purpose?

If there were a "collection", what would be different (in using your GPS) from loading files individually?

I am not sure that there would be much agreement on what should be in a "collection".

The built in POIs are a "collection" - does that not give you enough?

If you succeed in building a "collection", how would you use it?

What I want in my collection will differ from what someone else

will want.

Different strokes for different folks

Pretty much this in a nutshell...unless the intent is to essentially duplicate/replace the entire internal POI listings that come with GPSr's (and this is a bigger undertaking than you may realise!), something like POI Factory where different categories are individual files are more of the way to go.

As noted, what some folks may use for travel POIs may differ from what others may use. (Speaking for myself--I usually like to put in rest areas and truck stops for long trips, lists of NOTABLE food and attractions (like the AZA zoos and aquariums POIs, the POI for Offbeat Attractions, some of the Travel Channel and Food Network and PBS/NPR food show POIs and the "mom and pop" restaurant POIs), and maybe a list of park attraction POIs (home-brewed from a list of NPS facilities) if I'm hitting a national park. Other folks are going to want other things. grin)

I like the idea's and

I like the idea's and listing. My intent as is yours. I want to differentiate from others and wouldn't be a bad idea to actually do as yours. Most likely will collect from others listings and use google earth and other POI creation formats for the rest. The intent is just to have my own collection, and change it up for myself and possibly for friends as well.

With summer approaching, and gas prices going down. It is about time to take some cool road trips.

That will work
