Nuvi 7x0 series v5.30 pulled from Garmin site...

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3815

According to the above link, the nuvi 7x0 series v5.30 has apparently been pulled (yet again). The page has been updated today, May 16, 2012 and shows v4.90 as the most recent version.

v5.30 is however still accessible (view the page source to find the file link) and has not been pulled from the server.

Good. Maybe I can "downgrade" to 4.9. I didn't mean to get 5.30 but it automagically updated when I got the new maps. It locked on me hard during a work trip on Tuesday. It locked and then turned the unit off. I turned it on and it turned off again. I repeated this crap for a while and then finally did a reset which made it work again. Of course I had to redo all of my settings and I lost the mileage figure I was tracking for the work trip...

Guess I was lucky with my nuvi 760

Updated to 5.30 several weeks ago and everything has worked fine. No problems that I could detect.

w00t!

Edited my GarminDevice.xml file and faked an older version. The updater offered me 4.90 and I took it. It's good to be back to a STABLE version!

Staying at 4.8 forever!

I will not even go to 4.9.

Same for me

I have the same results--only slightly odder since I was updating from the pulled 5.1 to the now-pulled 5.3.

I'm glad to hear that it works fine for you since WebUpdater doesn't backdate us to 4.9.

Took a while to crash

5.30 "appeared" to work fine for me at first. I had to do a long drive for work. The firmware worked fine and my audio book worked fine the first day. However, on my way home, at right around 500 miles into the trip, the GPS turned off.

I pulled off the road and restarted the unit. It powered up and then turned off again. I did this a few times then decided that maybe the thing was overheated from sitting in the sun on the dash - even though this had never happened in the past. I cooled it in front of the air conditioning vent. It was nice and cool. I powered it on and had the same problem through maybe 5 tries. It would power on and then turn off.

I did a reset (pain in the butt since the firmware update had done an automagic reset in the first place) and, after the reset, everything worked again. It took 500 miles for it to break but break it did.

I reverted to the 4.90 version that's now available. (I think I may have been at 4.8 before but I'm not certain.) 4.9 is supposed to be a very stable version. I'll be more careful the next time there's a map update.

Limited miles?

If it's really related to the total miles, it could be a mishandling of the bread crumbs memory. It would be interesting to erase the history before reaching the 500 miles and see if it continues to work.

Nuvi 7x0

Is this just for the 7x0 series or does it affect 7x5 also

It's for the 0s, not the 5s.

0s only, as far as I know.

Any info on why V5.30 was pulled.....

Anyone have any information/ideas as to why 5.30 was pulled from Garmin site? I am just curious, as I don't plan on any updating anytime soon. Will be sticking with 4.90 for a long time.

Editing the XML file

Can you share how you did that? Or post the edited file somewhere so we can copy and add to our units...

and look to page 2 for my message of May 25.

Well, I have been using v5.3

Well, I have been using v5.3 the past week or two. Probably about 100 miles.

I find 5.3 makes my Nuvi 750 slow or laggy. When typing in an address, I can type much faster than the software can process it and display my keystrokes. This makes for more errors in typing in the correct address, as I might type the same letter or digit twice because it did not get displayed the first time.

Other than that, v5.3 seems to work ok.

I am not sure if I should go back to version 4.8 or not.

Wait a bit longer

A couple of members reported problems starting around 500 miles - possibly related to the length/size of the breadcrumbs file. I suggest you keep an eye on it for a bit longer.

I will be doing about 550 miles next week

Going to IL to visit family. Will try it out and report back as to whether or not I had any problems with 5.30

760 locked up

At about 500 miles after updating to v5.3, my nuvi 760 locked up. After deleting the trip log it was okay again. As long as it is that easy, I do not plan to roll back the firmware. I hope Garmin comes up with an update to fix this. Thanks to all the contributors to this thread - your info is good!
