How can I download the new map 2013.10 directly to the SD Card of my Nuvi 2450?
If you don't have room on the internal memory the Garmin updater should offer you the opportunity to load the map onto the MicroSD. However, if you wish to do it manually for whatever reason you'll need MapInstall (included with BaseCamp) to transfer the map. On the device detection screen of MapInstall will be a drop-down menu. Your MicroSD should be one of the options available.
This gives step-by-step directions:
Out of curiosity, I've got the 2450 and loaded the full map update with no problems. Of course I cleared out the voice files I won't use. I have about 450MB free still.
I still have space, I was just curious as to how to do it in case I needed to in the future, plus I also have a 1490 that is very limited in size and perhaps I will download the new update to its SD Card. The 1490 presently cannot fit all of North America's map.
This is how I've been doing it for years... literally. Find it much more effective. However, it takes forever to download initially.
The 1490 presently cannot fit all of North America's map.
Did you remove all the unused voices and foreign language files? Doing so should be sufficient to allow you to install the complete map on the device, without requiring the MicroSD.
Case in point: after the 2013.10 update I have 133MB left in internal storage. This is on a device with the same amount of storage space.
I have all of NA in memory. It's showing 55MB free. I have the 43.8 JV file and many Custom POIs, some with small JPGs attached.
I have nothing on the card, YET.
