Welcome to the site!

Most of the files here cover one specific point of interest such as all the locations for a specific restaurant chain, hotel/motel or store. Some of the files include both Canada and the US while others are limited to the US only. Others cover a wide variety of possible stops such as Off-Beat Attractions which is a compilation of weird and odd-ball roadside attractions. This type of file is best for the whimsical "while driving down the road" kind of stop rather than a specific destination.

The files are all text type, the CSV or Comma Separated Variable is the easiest to understand as it is a 4 column list giving the GPS coordinates, the name or identifier for the stop and any additional information the file maintainer wants to include like city, state, phone and address.

GPX files are HTML and usually contain more information than the CSV type. In addition, if your Garmin GPS supports it, they will allow you to dial a phone number associated with the POI using your bluetooth connected phone.

Welcome

I have downloaded many files to my PC. They reside in folders named CSV or GPX. I review every file in Excel or Mapsource. IF I decide to use them, I move the file to my Custom POI folder. From that folder all the files including the RLC & speed files are loaded into my Garmins using POI Loader.
