Places of Worship

About a year ago, installing a new map caused me to lose the "Places of Worship" POI category. It has been a long year of misinformation, re-installing map after map, being blamed for the delay in getting support because I followed the instructions of posting at least every 72 hours to keep the question from being closed as answered... and the list goes on.

A few days ago I was informed that some of TomTom's maps have had certain POI categories added, some have been unchanged, and some have had POI categories removed. Tech support can't tell me if the maps for my model have them removed, but they guess that's the reason. The recommendation was for me to create my own POI file for Places of Worship. Considering the fact that there were thousands of locations in the original file, that would be nearly impossible.

Does anyone know where I can find the original file, or a third party file that would have all places of worship in the U.S.? My search of this site brought no results for what I need. As a retired pastor, I used Places of Worship more than any other POI category.

Places of Worship

The one that originally came on my TomTom had most denominations (if not all) and covered the U.S. all in one file. I downloaded one that seemed to be what I had, but couldn't get it to convert to the TomTom format. But I'm new to downloading files other than from TomTom and no little or nothing about converting them.

Places of Worship

Your Tom-Tom, if it listed all places of worship, probably had hundreds of thousands of entries. You're right in thinking that rebuilding that file is impractical. Instead you could build a POI file that lists only the ones you are interested in. I did the same thing and included only Friends Meetings located in 3 states, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. You can get the needed info from the web site(s) of the governing body or just do a search. Why list it if you have no interest in attending worship there?
