Extra POI Editor Problems

So I finally downloaded Extra POI Editor as I wanted to create some new POI's. I've had nothing but trouble with it. I ran the initial v.5.30 installer to get the OCX library files and then ran the v.5.32 installer which is the latest version. So at this point I wanted to test it. When it runs and I load a .csv file (the red light and speed camera files from POI Factory to be exact), I get multiple Script Errors (Line 1 Char 26) which leads to Runtime Automation Errors and then crashes. I can't figure out what's wrong. I love Turbo's TTSVoiceEditor which has given me no trouble but for some reason, I'm having a tough time with the Extra POI Editor. I'm using XP SP3. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I just tried loading Redlight-Cameras.csv and it worked fine for me. Try uninstalling EPE and then run the "Latest Multilingual Installer"

That should be all you need to do.

When I Click On POI Is When Problem Starts

OK, I'll give it a shot, thanks. I guess I should mention that the Redlight-Cameras.csv file will load. It's when I click on a specific POI in the upper left screen in EPE is when I get these series of errors.

No Internet Causes Issues

Well, I pinpointed the issue to the following: Sometimes I like to work offline (no internet traffic either by having the modem off or firewall block traffic). When I shut off Enable Internet in EPE, the script errors stopped. I think this may need to be re-written for such a scenario in my opinion because how would anyone know about this. I just did it on a hunch. Now I'll spend some time with learning how to use it. I don't know the learning cruve on this utility yet but I just want to take a few places and create some POI's. Would I pinpoint them with Basecamp or Google Maps first to get the coordinates?

Thanks.

Preroll

You beat me to it, if the internet is off or super slow you will get the error because it can't get to Google maps, there is an option for enabling or disabling internet when you are off line.

The theory is that

when you use EPE you will also use the function where it goes to google maps so you can get coordinates.

Batch A Bunch Of POI's?

OK, so I finally tried it again using the internet and yes it worked by typing in an address which returned the map with the coordinates. I saved it as a GPX and transferred it to the unit to test and there it was. Here's the million dollar question though. Say I want to batch a hundred hotel chains at once. I couldn't possibly look up every single address and type them in so what's the trick to doing this? Sorry for the newbie question but I'm a newbie! LOL!

Thanks again.

I maintain all my POI on spreadsheets. One column for each item. EPE is flexible enough that the columns can be in any order, you specify which item is in which column. EPE will assemble the data and build the file. As long as empty columns are not the first columns read, you can read the file in and have EPE batch geocode the addresses.

I'll have to play around with this to see how to get EPE to batch geocode. One question though. The POI Factory Red-Light file contains Lon/Lat/Intersection/Description. The proximity alert for RLC goes off when close to the intersection but when looking at the .csv in Excel or EPE, there is no Proximity Information tied in with these POI's. How does the unit know these are Proximity POI's? I thought there would be info in EPE under Tourguide with the Proximity info but I'm obviously way off in understanding this at this point.

Thanks.

Send me a private message and I'll email you a sample spreadsheet to show how I handle the input data. As for EPE, when you try to load a file that has a defined field empty (except the first column) it will give you a warning. From there it's pretty intuitive because of the great job Turbo did in building the program. Once you have all the locations loaded, you just press F5 and let it do its thing with Google.

As to the speed camera file, the @ symbol is what triggers an alert, for the RLC it's the keywords in the file. Look at the help menu for POILoader.
