How to test Alerts on Nuvi 350

Is there a way to run a route on the Nuvi 350 to see if POI alerts are working before getting on the road? I have loaded them before trips only to find out on the trip that they aren't working.

I know there is a simulate mode, but is a POI alert triggered just as it would be in the Navigate mode?

Assuming you have set up the alerts correctly (by, say, manual mode in POILoader with proper names), simulating a route is the same as navigating. Of course you need to have the alert sound activate quickly because you would not want to wait too long while the unit "drives" the route.

Your unit supports mp3 files, so that would work.

I could not find in the manual how to get a Nuvi 350 into simulation mode. Will it simulate?

Simulation Mode

Yes, all of your alerts work in Simulate mode. I usually test new POI alerts to make sure they're proximity to the road will allow them to alert properly.

simulation mode on 3xx

I believe on all the 3xx and 6xx nuvi's with the flip-up antenna, you put it in simulatin mode by flipping the antenna down. That shuts off the GPS receiver, putting it in simulation mode. I suspect the OP already knows this, but thought I would add the information for others who might run across the thread.

Testing efficiently

alandb is correct that simulation mode for the 350 is obtained by keeping the antennae down. Unless your POIs you want to test are near your last location when you had the GPS on, hope you have a lot of time on your hand because running simulation mode is very slow.

Solution - make the GPS think it is somewhere it really isn't. Reccommend you ead this article http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/page3.htm#locat... to see how to make the GPS think it is somewhere else. Using that technique you can then quickly get your GPS to think it is just outside the POI alert range and can run simulation mode to find out fast if POI alerts are working.
