Uconnect 8.4N custom POI audio alert

Has anyone tried custom POI on Uconnect 8.4N?
I purchased a 2012 dodge charger RT with uconnect 8.4N/RB5. My query is about the custom POI for speed radars. I can see the custom poi images as it approaches the location as well as get text alert with both grey if speed is lower and red if speed is higher than the alert criteria. But I am not able to get any audio alert. I am including the steps I have done.

1. Downloaded the gpx file for poi's, along with the bmp image.
2.Downloaded the mp3 warning tone from POI factory.
3. Checked if all the three files are with the same name.
4. Loaded onto my garmin nav sd card using poi loader from garmin website.

I had also tried removing the mp3 and loading without any sound file, as well as replacing the mp3 with .Wav file, loaded using sox.exe which was placed in garmin folder where the poi loader pc software is. None of the step helped me in getting audio alert. Can anyone help me out please?
Thanks

Check to be sure Voice Prompts is On

Welcome to the site!

Although I am not familiar with your system, I was able to download a Uconnect manual for your system at http://www.dodge.com/en/owners/manuals/.

I found nothing to indicate whether it uses .wav or mp3.

The only helpful thing I found is that under Settings, then Navigation, then Voice Prompts, you can turn Voice Prompts on or off. You might want to check to be sure the Voice Promts are on.

They are already on

Thanks for your reply selfruler. I've checked them and they were turned on.

The Entertainment Area Accepts WMA or MP3 Files

I found another site that indicates you can connect your favorite media player via usb and play mp3 or wma files.

Although the navigation area does not specify mp3 warning tone my guess is that mp3 would be the appropriate file type.

You probably already have this information but just in case: You can find contact formation for Uconnect support by phone or e-mail at http://www.driveuconnect.com/contact-us/

Beautiful system! Hope you find a solution, soon.

new car gps systems

In general, there is little hope for custom POIs like red light and speed cameras being added to GPS systems which come with a new car.

I ran into a brick wall when interested in doing this with a new Honda car.

Perhaps you will have better luck?

proximity points

I got this option in gps system where it says proximity points. Clicking on it shows the custom poi's as checked and audio alert is in continous alert. Funny it is suppose to work as the inclusion of this option means it has the capability to sound alert for custom poi's. Don't know what I am doin wrong. Also I tried using .csv files instead of .gpx files and still does not work.

I know this is an old thread

I know this is an old thread but i thought i would mention that i Managed to get points of interest installed on my Chrysler 300, which has the same nav as this thread.

Although I have all poi alerts showing as they should, but none of them make noise.

See my write up here, which I will update as i get more information.

The nav unit will not play wav files or mp3 files bundled with Garmin PoiLoader. Even though the nav unit has settings that indicate it should play alerts for POIs.

one thing i see

One thing I see in your writeup is you show mp3 files in your directory, but if you are going to use SOX those need to be WAV files.

Good point Box Car. I've

Good point Box Car.

I've been trying both, separately, and together, and none at all, trying to get the Chrysler In-Dash system to announce anything. So far I haven't gotten a peep out of it, even though the alerts show up. No Bings either, although I swear the car used to "bing" about red light cams when I first loaded them.

There is a much newer version of Sox available but it is unclear that it is compatible with POI Loader. I've tried that one as well. Made no difference.

This is still a work in progress. I also have a Nuvi 3790 which I use as my test bed, then move the files to the car. Everything works on the Nuvi. Still no sound on the car even though the alerts appear.

Any hints are welcome.

Silent UConnect 8.4N

In the same boat here in the UK, tried with POI files with MP3, Wav (They get ignored) and without anything and audible proximity alerts set for custom POI with single or continuous alert.

The alerts appear correctly on the screen as grey, or red if over speed, but no audible alert no matter which way I try.

The files work perfectly on a handheld GARMIN nuvi with and without the custom MP3 so I wonder if audible alerts have been disabled on the 8.4N even though the function is in the UI.

Solution found

Ok, folks I've finally gotten to the bottom of this issue after jerking Chrysler's chain.
They were helpless. But I finally got them to direct me to their contact at Garmin and after weeks of patient back and forth calls, emails etc, it was proven that there is a bug in the 2012 and 2011 8.4N nav unit software which causes it to fail to open the audio output circuit for POI notifications.

This nav will not play custom mp3 or wav files. Simply does not have that capability.
But the manual and the nav clearly indicate that an alert sound should be sounded for poi files that have alerts set.

Garmin sent me a revised software load. (Version 4.14) that corrects the problem and you will get the BING notification sound at red light cameras as well as other POI files that have alert distances set.

This version will be released to chrysler for upgrade to customers vehicles in the coming months. I requested and received permission to share this version with other chrysler Jeep and Dodge owners having the same problem with silent POI notifications.

This software is ONLY for the 2011 & 2013 Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep 8.4N garmin nav units.

This link will download the 4.14 version:

Custom sounds work fine in a 2013 model

I can't comment on the 2011-2012 models, but I have custom wav file working fine on my 2013 unit.

Solution found to Silent UConnect 8.4N for Custom POI

Icebike - thanks from the UK.

I have successfully applied the download from your URL and moved the Garmin software on the Uconnect 8.4N in my 2012 300c up from version 3.50 to 4.14 and now Custom POI alerts sound as they should.

NB I had to burn the file to disk as I could not get the file recognised from a USB drive and it took about 10 - 15Mins as it was "validating update" and then another 4 or 5 minutes to reboot but all seems well.

Thanks again - this has been driving me nuts.

re: Solution found

I know this is an old thread, but Icebike's info is still useful. The software update fixed my POI audio alerts in my 2012 Dodge Charger CPT12. It went from no audible alerts to custom audio alerts after applying the firmware upgrade after previously loading custom POI and alerts.

Thanks!!!

Icebike

Your evernote does not work. Will you post how you got POIs on your unit.
I have a new Honda and am trying to get POIs on it.
Thanks

Uconnect 8.4N CPT12 problem...help!!!

Dear all,
I'll introduce myself. I own a Lancia Thema 2012 (similar to Chrysler 300) equipped with a Garmin navigator CPT12 version.

By mistake, I've installed CPT13 firmware. As consequence, the system doesn't load.

I've looked for a CPT12 firmware, but it's not available at Garmin's website.

I found that you got this file to solve your problem with POI audio. Unfortunately, your link is also broken currently.

If any of you keeps this file, I'd really apreciatte that you sent it to me.
Thanks a lot

Go To Uconnect

You best bet is to go back to Unconnect and contact support. https://www.uconnect.com

Might Be Helpful To Check

the WayBackMachine at archive.org for older versions of a site where the link may still provide the file via the archives, or even a general search on the filename itself.

solved!

Just to tell you that finally I got the CPT12 firmware, and restoration worked. Now I've got my maps updated, an working.

Thanks to everybody for their sugestions, they were very helpful for me!
