A New Triple D File

I created this in csv format only and it includes the meals featured at each location Triple D filmed for the show.

Some locations if they were visited multiple times are listed more than once, if the show was shown under different series names it will include multiple series names.

The locations that went OOB and are CLOSED still appear on the list indicating they are no longer in business.

I also want to encourage your participation in the file Triple D Plus.csv, fans that patronize the restaurants featured in the Triple D show send me a short note with a mini review of the places you have visited to be included in the file (make it short and to the point) for an example you can check the reviews I did of Tampa Bay Brewing Co. The Taco Bus in Tampa and La Camaronera in Miami

Dixie Bones

I don't know if this was on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. I ate there in Woodbridge VA. 13440 Occaquan RD. It is a small b-b-q restaruant, but nice atmosphere and good food.

I have to check this out...

My wife loves triple d. This may be my first poi file for my nuvi. I have never tried installing one, so I'll check it out when I have time to really look at it. Looks like a great community here. Thanks for your hard work.

welcome aboard

Welcome aboard! As you are a new user and member, I suggest you look through the FAQ section as it will answer a lot of questions. I also strongly suggest you do a backup of your unit before making changes. You only need to do a backup before any Garmin software updates, not every time you load custom POI.

As you have a 205, you'll need to follow the directions about locating the correct version of the sound exchange program SOX and how to load that so you can get alert sounds for your POI.

All in all, welcome aboard and don't be afraid to ask questions, we don't bite.

stopped in a Philadelphia diner couldn't figure out what was featured. We didn't feel it was worth driving to it. Glad you created a file with the featured meals, now we'll be looking for those items.

I don't see any reason you couldn't combine Triple D locations as one even if they were visited multiple times and having multiple featured items.

Actually there is only one location that was visited twice, The Bayway Diner in Linden NJ and has separate listings in the file because of the food that was prepared for each visit.

BTW I'm planning the next time we go to Philly to stop at The Dining Car & Market for some Chicken Croquettes

Not worth it

We have eaten in many of these restaurants and the only two places we were disappointed in was the first show from Wichita KS where the food was greasy and not kind to our stomachs and the Mad Greek Diner where it was just blah.
Otherwise we have not found others bad.

Not Worth It?

kurzemnieks that is precisely why I’m adding our own reviews so we can have an independent recommendations besides the show’s host.

You wrote of the places you have visited 2 were not of your liking but the others are not bad so why the Not Worth It title?

Any poi from the POI-Factory file has more information in one spot than this site has.

Thanks!

The TripleDFan.com is a good resource for a quick check by state if it's kept up-to-date.

The official FoodNetwork TripleD site used to list all of the visited diners and the number of `views' for each. You could also sort the diners by # of views, which was a convenient way to find newly listed/visited diners. I can't seem to locate that page anymore, can anyone help me out or is it no longer accessible?

Interesting

Flaco,

this is an interesting idea. If I find some time I'll send you a few comments about some of the dozen or more DDD places my wife and I have gone to. Whenever we travel, one of the first things we do is search for DDD places in the area.

Overall we've enjoyed every place we've gone to. The only exception is Standard Diner in Albuquerque, NM. The food was OK, but we and our guests all agreed that we wouldn't recommend it and certainly wouldn't go back again. It is the only DDD place we've eaten at over the years that we won't give an unqualified recommendation to others to visit.

A comment on what you said above. On occasion we find that the dishes featured on DDD really are the best ones offered by the establishment. I may suggest that locations featured in more than one episode will not disappoint if you order anything from the menu. If you are only visiting the place once, stick with what Guy had and you shouldn't be disappointed.

Error in File?

When loading the latest file using POI Loader to my Garmin 750, I get an error:

There is a data format error on line 508 of file ...Triple D Plus.csv. The data earlier in the file will be written, but no more data can be read from this file.

I'm wondering if it's me because I don't see anyone else mentioning it. Anyone have any suggestions? I checked line 508 and don't see anything obvious.

I think the error is line 509

The is a comma after avenue in the 4th column. Remove it and see what happens. That's the only thing I spotted.

Thanks slobeavis and pwohlrab for catching that error, I removed the comma alter Avenue and also the one before Canada.

The weird thing is that location has been there for a while and this is the first complaint I got with the loader giving an error, I have updated both my Garmin as late as yesterday and it did not error out for me.

Once I upload the file later tonight the master will have the fix.

Nope

I removed the comma after avenue and before Canada and it still stops at line 508.

The other odd thing is that I moved the whole line 508 to the very end of the file thinking now it would get to the end before crashing but it still said Line 508 had an error.

Still don't see anything obvious.

Never mind. I downloaded the latest POI Loader (v2.71) and noticed I still had the old extraction file in the "download" directory which says v2.53. After loading 2.71, everything worked. For some reason, v2.53 doesn't like something in the POI file but 2.71 is ok with it. Everything is fixed now. Thanks.

Glad you got it fixed

There was quite a mess around those version numbers that created havoc with files. To check the version number click in the upper left of the poi window and you will get a drop down box with the "about" in it.

Also, somewhere about that time the default install locations changed so if you are using sox.exe for sound check to see where it is.

--
Nuvi 2460LMT.

I am reminded that

I am also reminded that the name changed from "PoiLoader.exe" to "POI Loader.exe"

AND, when I was looking at the POI Loader folder, I saw that I had included in the folder a little batch file that was suggested by one of our members (can not remember who, but thank you to that member) that will easily give the version of the sox.exe executable in my POI Loader folder.

The batch file contains two lines

sox --version
pause

Copy these two lines into Notepad

Then do a File Save

In the file name type "sox-ver.bat" (include the quotes to force Notepad to name it exactly as you want it).

Store the sox-ver.bat file in your "Program Files\Garmin\POI Loader" folder

When you run this .bat file, you should see
"sox: SoX v14.0.1"

New reviews by POI Factory member Jorgenson.

Charlie Parker's (Springfield, IL)
Comet Cafe (Milwaukee, WI)
Iron Barley (St. Louis, MO)
Keegan's Seafood Grille (Indian Rocks Beach, FL)
Ted Peters Famous Smoked Fish (South Pasadena, FL)

Sorry Jorgenson but Crabby Bill's Seafood (Indian Rocks Beach, FL) has never been featured in Diners Drive In and Dives.

Jorgenson and others have questioned why I keep the locations CLOSED OOB in the file, my reasoning is that they are still showing on TV the shows filmed at those locations that are now out of business, if someone happens to see one of those locations on the TV show they may assume 1) they still in business 2) that I forgot to add the location to the file, by keeping them there with a notation CLOSED OOB you will save a drive to a non existing location.

Problem with this POI set using Mac POI Loader

Not sure if this is the right thread (and if not please feel free to move this to another thread or start a new one)...

I cannot get this file to load using the OSX version of POI Loader (latest version is 2.2.1 which is WAY behind the Windows version). POI Loader just stops on 'initializing' and I have to Force Quit the app. The Windows version I run on a VM processes the file just fine.

Is there anything I can do to help debug the issue?

I too want to know

Is this the only file giving you trouble loading using the OSX version?

I'm bumping this up hoping one of the Mac users can help trouble shoot and maybe tell me if I need to do something to the file.

Only one of the few I currently use.

flaco wrote:

It's the only one of the few I'm using which is giving me an issue, yes.

I currently use

Costco USA & Canada
Speed & Redlight Cameras
Target Stores
Tim Hortons
Triple D Plus, and
Walmart USA & Canada

I do have the workaround which is to process the file using the Windows POI Loader which I run on a VM but I'd really like to get to the bottom of issue just in case this is a problem for others.

Thanks!
