where are my custom alerts sounds?

okay, I'm at a loss. I have followed all the instructions for downloading the red light camera locations including naming "bit map" and "custom sound" files all the same. I loaded from this site the "you are approaching a red light camera" and "slow down, speed trap ahead" with poi loader but still just get 2 beeps? the odd thing is I see the bit map at the location but still no custom sounds. I used a mp3 file with the .mp3 ext so not sure why its not working.

I got a nuvi 2300 brand new, is it possible the nuvi 2300 doesn't support mp3 files?

any help would be appreciated. thanks !

Also check computer settings

You may have already handled this, but there can be a problem with naming the sound and icon files the same as the POI file if extensions are hidden.

Look at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30393 to make sure your computer settings allow extensions to be seen.

nuvi 2300 has no mp3

just realized no audio bokks either since no mp3. maybe I should have got a mp3 model. oops!

No MP3

I don't think any of the current models have the mp3 player. Garmin has done away with that feature.

Maybe someone else here knows for sure.

I think you're right

When I saw the post, I went to the Garmin "search and compare automobile GPS" site and planned to check. There isn't even an option to check for models with mp3 players now. I'm sure it was there earlier.

I did the same thing & saw the same thing - no mp3 feature even listed to select.

That's why I've kept my old, trusty 660. wink grin grin

I wish the standard warning for redlights and speed cameras was better then just beep beep. I would rather have it say "you are approaching a red light camera" or "slow down, speed trap ahead" so the warning has specific meaning. without mp3 I don't even know how to do that. I see like 15 instructions and 2 downloads just to add a wav file.

You can get alerts

Follow what Charles45 wrote up. To make it simple all you need to do is just down to the point of "making your own wav files".

You do need poi loader and sox. Once those are where they need to be you don't have to bother with them again. Just point poi loader to the folder with the files and follow the instructions.

Step by step

I'm sure you'll beable to succeed if we take this one step at a time.

First question, Are you using Windows (XP, Windows 7, Vista etc) or a MAC

Assuming you are using a PC, there is a portable freeware program called Wavosaur that can make the conversions for you. Once you have Wavosaur in a directory (it has to be unzipped but does not require an install so it will make no changes to your registry), run wavosaur.x.x.exe and File > Open your .mp3 file. You can immediately File > Save the file (because right now it only saves in .wav format) and Wavosaur will put the .wav file back in the directory it came from.

If you want to try it, go to
http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?q=wavosaur
and click the download link. You will be taken to http://www.wavosaur.com/download.php where you will click on the "[US flag image Wavosaur (en)]" link near botton of first screen. Save in, say, MyPortableApps\Wavosaur. Then navigate to that directory and unxip the file (the .zip has only the .exe and a readme.txt file). Then run Wavosaur.1.0.6.0.exe and proceed as above.
