Updated PoiLoader to v2.7.1
Change History
Changes made from version 2.7.0 to 2.7.1:
Fixed issue with sending POI files with incorrect file extension to SD cards.

I have not tested it yet.

Finally.

Finally. That should have been an easy fix a long time ago.
I hope it works.

MrKenFL- "Money can't buy you happiness .. But it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery." NUVI 260, Nuvi 1490LMT & Nuvi 2595LMT all with 2014.4 maps !

However --

They STILL haven't fixed the issue where I can no longer control what folder it's installed to. This installation goes to C:\Program Files\Garmin\POI Loader regardless, and I don't really care to have control taken from me. Unfortunately, the only thing I can do instead is run version 2.5.4, and I won't be doing that.

Garmin Nuvi 2450

Thanks

Thanks for letting us know about the new version.

Hopefully now since it

Hopefully now since it affects my 3490LMT and it is the only version that recognizes my device, I will not have to save the file to my desktop and then copy it to my sd card. Going to d/l it now and test it. I had called Garmin tech support about this issue when I first received my unit and with help info from other users they finally got the issue resolved.

You can rename the folder or copy the exe file to the folder you want it in provided you did a previous install to that folder. The DLLand supporting files don't change that often.

Didn't realize that, I thought the installation "coded" everything to the install directory. I'll give it a whirl.

KD5Xb Your file name.poi

KD5Xb

Your file name.poi will always be the name of the folder where you told the loader your files were located in. Just rename the folder on your desktop to POI and the related poi it creates will then always be POI.gpi.

POI Loader for Windows V 2.7.1

Just tested it and everything appears to be fine.

OK...

That's understood, but what I was complaining about is that the installation program doesn't allow me to select what folder I want the POI Loader installed in.

1490

Worked fine here. Files look correct. (1490 on Win 7 pro 64)

2.7.1 uncovered an old mistake

The first time I reloaded my custom POI's, POIloader 2.7.1 found an entry that had a missing " (double quote). The entry was, in fact, syntactically incorrect. I must have used prior releases of the loader a hundred time without the error being detected.
When the error was detected, it pointed right to the correct line so that I could fix it. Good job, loader.

will update. that SD card POI bug was one of reasons I moved my EU maps to SD card and started loading POIs back to device itself even though I learned later on where the error was. I just like comfort i guess wink

Weirdness

Ok. It's kind of cool that it now names the files properly instead of just poi.gpi but....... I just loaded a file onto my nuvi. It shows up on the card just fine. When I booted the nuvi I got the normal prompt about new files asking if I want to move it to the actual GPS. On my unit - the 760 - I always have to answer Yes and then I get another screen that lets me mark "skip this" and "never ask again". In this manner I've been able to keep the custom poi files on the card rather than on the GPS.

When I loaded the files this time I got the same queries and used the same method as always. However, the dang poi doesn't show up on the GPS. All of my other custom POI files still show but the new one doesn't. I've gone through the process 3 times so far and the stupid file is on the card but invisible when I try to use it on the GPS.

Add another category to your file structure and put the file in it. Then see if it shows up. How many files do you have in the category you are trying to add it to?

Sigh............

My wife was kind and said it was a PEBKAK error but I say it was an ID10T error. Stupid new version changed the way it functions a bit by creating the name for me. It wasn't working the way I was used to and I was fried from a night of almost no sleep. The entries were showing up but NOT under the file name. They were just dumped into the unit.

It's weird because even when I manually put the .gpi file with the proper name on the unit it still didn't show up under that name. I eventually calmed down and figured out what I was doing wrong and all is well.

Pretty embarrassing as I work in IT and am constantly working with users who make stupid mistakes of this kind. I guess it goes to show that sleep can be important. smile
