About a month ago I did a hard reset of my 2460 because it was taking extremely long to calculate routes. After the reset I noticed a light blue line following the car on the map, and this is whether I have a route set to follow or the unit is just on while I'm driving.
The link above shows an example. My wife has this same unit and it doesn't do it on hers, nor did it ever do it on mine before the reset.
After the reset I thumbed thru some settings but have no idea I did to cause this, anyone?
Breadcrumbs
You can change the settings under Tools/ Settings/ Navigation/ Trip Log.

Cool and scary at the same
Cool and scary at the same time. As Juggernaut has described you can turn it off by using the settings.
Scary?
Scary? Why is that, the information doesn't go anywhere? It's a log file of where you have driven which can be turned off or on depending on how you want to use it. I can remember a few years ago when the Nuvi didn't have this feature and there was a deafening cry from all of us that wanted a log of where we had used our GPS.

Scary, because just like
Scary, because just like anything else these days the data could be collected for "marketing" purposes. Once you connect your PND to your computer this info could be transmitted online.
If you ever used Dashboard a question pops up that states something about Garmin collecting data in order to improve their products. ie. On the 3490 if you ever route yourself to a POI the PND will ask your to rate the POI. I don't think the ratings stay on the PND.
This sneaky stuff happens all the time. It happened with Carrier IQ on the phones.
I use it all the time
I use the trip log feature all the time.
When I travel I download the data every night to Mapsource on my laptop to just trace my travel on Mapsource and just for general info on our trip.
I keep it active even when driving around town in case I should be involved in an accident or be stopped for "speeding", or even the fact that I stopped for a couple seconds at an intersection stop sign. The data could be down loaded to my computer and possibly presented as evidence.
I'm not paranoid about Big Brother watching me as I try my best to stay within the law ! (+/- a little)

I also use this to notify maintainers when a Custom POI coordinates need correcting. I can geotag photos also.

But you have to agree to let Garmin collect the data on Dashboard and if you opt out, nothing is collected. If you never rate a POI, again there is nothing to collect. If you do rate a POI then I'd think you'd want the data to be collected. Not much point of rating something if no one is going to take the rating into account for some purpose.

Zumo 665 Trip Log
On the Zumo 665 the triplog by default is set to display in motorcycle mode and is hidden in automotive mode. Either can be changed.
I use the trip logs from the car to retrace my work travels. I can't ever remember where I've been so its a good reminder.
I use the trip logs in MC mode to send to our group of our adventures. You should have seen North Central and North West Arkansas from this summer. We put about 1800 miles on in a few short days covering the Ozark mountains, and I can prove it. It looks pretty cool.

Glad I'm not as paranoid as some here.
My Zumo 550 will remember a trip and I can then make it a route, but I never saw it trace my route as I drove. The 2460 never did this before the reset.
I drive for a living and go over the same roads a lot in a given day, I kind of like it just didn't know how it started doing it.
Thanks for the replies.

@Soberbyker,
I don't have a Z550 or 2460 but try -
Tools > Settings > Map > Triplog
See if you can select Hide or Show. Neither will affect the tracks from being saved, it just shows the little blue line on the map of your tracks.

True Bear. Better to know it exists, than not. It's actually darn handy at times, to retrace your path.

Darn, you found us out! The Canadia government has been secretly tracking every person that uses a GPS so that we can invite them to the 2012 Calgary Stampede.
It's the 100th Anniversary of the Stampede and the Prime Minister was having trouble making up the invite list
And
And here I thought it was being used for the invite list to Arizona's 100th Anniversary as a State. The big party is on February 14th, in case your invite got lost in the mail.

The breadcrumb is just resided on the local machine.
Until
Until you agree via your myGarmin account to allow Garmin to obtain data from your device when it's attached to your computer. What data they collect, I have no idea but it doesn't bother me a bit in any event. I suspect a lot of people don't read the screens and agree to this data collection when they really don't want to.

Because I want to benefit others with the ratings given to places I patronize, or the roads that I correct the speed limit etc.
Do I care if people know how many times I go to Mons Venus, not really (if you don't know what it is google it)
Unless you are a suspect there is nothing to fear from the breadcrumb.

I know we should’ve stopped when we drove by in 2008, they were probably tracking me back then.
