The "GO" is not visable

I create a custom POI for my Nuvi 50, used both notepad and extra editor. Everything seems fine, use garmin poi loader. My file is located under 'extras', custom poi. easy to find, but when I select a item it shows up great but without the "GO" function. Here is an example line.
-89.643321,39.771368,Hammer Hobbies Spfld,",,Phone:," What am I doing wrong. I have ran the file through the editor several times, saved as 4 column, csv, and just plane 'garmin csv' then I ran it through the poi loader. But still no 'GO" function. No numbers in names. Please help.

I read thru your manual (as I have a 765T) and did not see anything like "Where To > Extras > Custom POIs detailed. Not to say that it won't work, but you did not mention exactly what steps you used to see the representation on your Nuvi 50 of the line
-89.643321,39.771368,Hammer Hobbies Spfld,",,Phone:,". So, let us know - in detail - what steps you used.

You say that you used POILoader, but did not mention where you directed the output. There is a known bug in POILoader 2.7.0 that produces an extension of .poi (instead of .gpi) when the output is sent to an SD card.

So, my suuggestion is this:

  • Create a directory on your computer called "MyPOIs"
  • Using Notepad, create a one line POI file called "MyTest.csv" which contains the one line "-89.643321,39.771368,Hammer Hobbies Spfld" only - no extra columns
  • Run POILoader and point it to the directory "MyPOIs"
  • Send the output to your Nuvi
  • You should get a message that 1 entry was sent

Safely disconnect your Nuvi and report what happens

look at the file

This may not be an exact copy of what the file has, but your example has some commas and quotes out of place.

-89.643321,39.771368,Hammer Hobbies Spfld,",,Phone:,"

The Lon/Lat is correct and this is the first 2 fields of 4. Hammer Hobbies Spfld is the 3rd field with ",,Phone:," as the 4th. Items within double quotes is treated as one field, so the 2 commas and phone number would be the 4th or description field.

Try a version of the file with only the first 3 fields. Lon/Lat and POI Name. See if that works. If it does, then the 4th or description field is the problem area. One more thing, you will need 2 or 3 records in the file for it to show up correctly as a single line is just a point and from my understanding is not routable.

Numerals

From other threads here, the most common cause of a missing "Go" button on a nuvi is a numeral in the file name of the csv file. What file name did you use? If there's a numeral in it, try renaming the csv and reloading with POI Loader and see if the Go appears.

Someone reported the same

Someone reported the same problem on a newer model with red light files with no go button.I remember looking it up on the Garmin FAQ and that was typical for redlight files.Because of the alert.Like CraigW stated this may be the same thing.

Went back and found it.

Why do I not have the option to press the go button on my device when viewing the details of a custom POI?

If you have loaded any custom POI's that are speed or red-light cameras, you will notice that you will not receive an option to hit 'Go' to those locations.

This is designed to operate this way. The custom POI locations for such cameras will start with a number, and if it starts with a number, the software will read it as speed or red-light cameras.

Such locations would not be selected as destinations to travel, but just areas to be alerted of, which is the reasoning behind this design.

Changes from speed to distance alert

That is because Poi Loader assume numbers above 125 in imperial and 199 in metric as an 400meter distance alert, and not an speed alert when running PoiLoader .
Only speed alert dont give an GoTo button.
