Garmin 2555lmt (use MyGarmin or Web Updater for this model?)

Hi,

I am getting this for my birthday on Saturday to replace my old 760 (still going strong).
I had noticed on reviews on Amazon etc that people were having issues updating the maps.
If fact that was the main complaint (and the 2455).
Is it better to use MyGarmin Account to update or should I download the WebUpdater and it instead?

thanks

.

The web updater does not update maps, just FW, voices, etc. I think most here prefer to use Option 2 for updating maps from the Garmin site. The Lifetime Updater program seems to be a bit flaky.

OK, thanks so MyGarmin is

OK, thanks so when you say Option 2 do you mean MyGarmin is the best solution then, just how I've been doing it with the 760?

.

Yes it is. Actually, it's the only way to update maps on any unit.

Option 2 is where you download the small .exe file that connects your unit to the Garmin servers, and then open the dialog screen.

Ok, thanks.Does this

Ok, thanks.
Does this download the maps to the device (this is a new device)?
Should I download them to the SD card instead?
I had read people had issues with space.

Also, should I use WebUpdater to update firmware, etc and not MyDashboard?

thanks

Yes

Yes, the vast consensus here at The Factory is that WebUpdater is far better for firmware, voice, help, text, and other updates than is myDashboard. The primary reason for this is that WU tells you what updates are available and you can choose only those that apply to you; i.e., do you really need that updated Danish language help file?
