Where's Emily?

I recently purchased the new Nuvi 3490LMT and find that my choices for the voice prompts are either Jill or Michelle, for English that is. Gone is my beloved British girl, Emily! Anyone know if other voices are available that speak English?

Wow

Wow, that's interesting. For Text to Speech voices, about your only source is Garmin. Have you run WebUpdater with the new nuvi attached to your computer? After looking for firmware updates, it'll offer you any new or updated voices, etc. That's where I'd check first.

Plz report back with your results.

Use the updater and you can

Use the updater and you can download tons of voices.

Success!

I first updated my unit using "myDashboard" on the Garmin website. It updated just fine, but there was no mention of anything else other than the firmware and the map update. So, then I used the WebUpdater program and it did give me the option to install other voices. I guess I was expecting the "FULL" service with myDashboard! Regardless, I now have Emily once again. Thanks for you help!

That's great to know. It's sorta surprising to me, though, that the nuvi didn't come with the full offering of voices right out of the box. Also surprising that myDashboard didn't give you all available files including a gazillion voices. I wonder if Garmin's changing things. Was Australian Karen available?

Voices

Yes, Australian Karen was there and I downloaded her as well. The nuvi came with only Jill and Michelle for the English voices. There's also one Spanish, one French, and one Portuguese voice. Then there are about 6 other voices that I couldn't tell you what they were as they use the oriental characters that I don't even pretend to understand! And that's it. But via webupdater, there were lots available as you said. Thanks again!
