Battery Charging

I have a Garman 755T GPS. Now, when I plug into 12v plug on the car, it seems that there isn't any 12v going to the GPS. In the past, after you plug in the GPS into the 12v plug, the GPS would start up automatically. Now nothing happens. Is it the GPS or the cord?

the power cord

has a fuse behind the cigarette lighter plug tip. It's probably blown.

That is the first thing you should do. Try a different adapter that works with it. Maybe the fuse in the adapter is blown.

fuse?

It could be the fuse in the tip of the power connector where it plugs into the cig lighter. Or it could be the fuse in your car for the cig lighter.

Of course it could also be the cord or the nuvi cradle. You will need to troubleshoot one piece at a time.

Does the 12v outlet work for anything else?

I'd start there, if you have another 12v accessory you can try out on the outlet first.

Tried Another Cord

I tried other 12v plugs in the car and my other car. No change. I also tried another cord from mt 14450LMT and it worked.

plug

sounds like you have found a bad cord

Check Fuse

Check the fuse first and then take the cord out and rotate 90 degrees and reinsert. Some times the contacts need to be moved to make good contact.

Fuse OK

I checked the fuse and it was OK. I rotated the plug also. No power to the GPS.

Battery Charging

I'd check the actual cig plug next to see if it has power.

I've had the fuse blow on me in the past.

Troubleshoot

If the fuse is good, inspect the wire connector where it plugs into the cradle, sometimes wires get detached from within the connector.

Next inspect the brass contacts on the Nuvi where it meets the contacts of the cradle, make sure no pins are missing or bent.

It also can be the cradle is bad, try to slightly jiggle the Nuvi while mounted in the cradle while plugged in, also jiggle the wire at the connector to the cradle.

I'm assuming your using the GTM20 traffic receiver that came with the 755T, these came in two styles, a longer barrel shaped one, and a shorter one.
The longer one was prone to breakage and replaced with the shorter one, both had GTM20 model #'s.

Most likely it will be either a bad cradle or the chord is bad. Either way, could be an expensive fix to restore with traffic receiver..
The GTM20 is no longer sold by Garmin, you have to try Ebay for that, but I just looked and they're very expensive.

As a cheaper alternative, if traffic is not important to you, you can get a power chord on Ebay quite cheap.

The cradle is also expensive, Garmin sells for 47.73 but comes with the windshield mount.
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=11028

Best Price for cradle on Ebay without bidding is 27.20 shipped for cradle only.

Hopefully your problem is minor and neither the cradle or power chord will need replacing.

Try Son's Parts

Just remembered my two sons have the 755T. I will try their parts to see what is going on.

Having spare parts will let you easily identify the problem. Let us know what you discovered.

New Cradle

I inquired Garmin on my problem and asked if spare parts were available and what are the prices. They replied even though it was out of warranty, they were sending me a new cradle, no charge. Today I received it and now the GPS is working and charging with the power cord. Garmin is a great company.

Good News Indeed

Thanks for the follow up and advising the problem was solved. I would have never thought Garmin would replace it for free since it's an older unit out of warranty. With all the bitching we sometimes do ( me included), it's refreshing to hear some positive comments.

Similar experience

I had a similar experience with Garmin. Windshield mount for a Quest was no longer staying stuck on the windshield. That mount includes the power cable and an external speaker. Really only needed the suction cup, but as that wasn't available separately, Garmin sent me a whole windshield mount assembly gratis.

Can't beat that for customer service.

Great idea (simple but sometimes overlooked). Or try the garmin in another car. Or, hit the power button because garmin can be buggy too.

Could be the Christmas spirit

Truly a good news story. I would have never thought Garmin would be that generous after a warranty has expired. Could it be that the person you spoke to was in a Christmas spirit that day?

Merry Christmas to Garmin too.

That's a great story! There are companies with great customer service like this, but they are getting rare.

Garmin Rocks

I have three different Garmin units and their customer service has always been very responsive and helpful. They have sent me new parts free of charge on several occasions.

Same here.

They once send me a free suction cup and bracket when I had a 250W.

Garmin has excellent

Garmin has excellent customer service. They just charge you an arm and a leg for out of warranty service. Almost to a point were its cheaper to buy another one on sale instead of getting it fixed.
