Reading POI files on Garmin

Is there a way to see a list of POI's that have been downloaded onto Garmin 1450LMT? I want to download onto my computer the POI files I have over time loaded onto my Garmin. I know how and what program to load POI files, but do not know how to list the files back onto my computer.

are you asking aout favorites?

There are at least 3 different sets of POI that can be found on a Garmin. There are the Custom ones added by loading files using POI Loader, the Favorites you normally save right on the unit and the factory loaded ones which are part of the map.

If you are asking about the Favorites, there are a couple of ways of off loading them to your computer. The way Garmin recommends is to use their programs either Mapsource or Basecamp. Both will download the CURRENT.GPX file which contains your favorites. The other method which allows you to save them in several different formats is TurboCCC's Extra_POI_Editor. There are several threads telling you how to download and install the program. The program, and a good set of instructions are at turboccc.wikispaces.com.

Custom POI you download from places like POI-Factory should be stored on your computer in the event you want to update the files as every time you run POILoader a new output file is stored and it overwrites any existing file.

The factory installed POI are part of the map and can't be accessed by another program.

GPi Viewer

I guess what you mean is how to view the gpi files you have on your gps. As fare as i know there is no free "GPI viewer" program, so the only way it to use a converter to convert it to gpx or gdb and view it in Mapsource or similar.
A "gpi viewer" is a useful program , but I never found one for free.

POI

I was hoping to find a program for Custom POI's I added to my Garman. Looks like there isn't a way to do it.

We still aren't sure what you are trying to do. What do you mean when you say "custom poi?" Are you asking about ones loaded when you run POI Loader? Are they sites you have been to and then saved by adding them to the unit? Tell us where these POI are located and we can give you better help. But from the lack of details and answers to questions we can't help you any more than provide very general answers.

.

The best way to tell "what Custom POIs are loaded on the GPS unit" is to look on the GPS unit itself using the menus.

We need better clarification

We need better clarification to help you. You keep stating being able to read your custom poi's. As already stated, custom poi's are in a .gpi format on the garmin and that the garmin reads. The gpi file is files like "rest areas", "red light cameras", "Walmart", etc. It could be on the garmin as "Walmart.gpi", "rest areas.gpi", or something like "stores.gpi" that would contain the combined files of say walmart, Best Buy, Staples, all in one gpi file.

The original files you used (csv, gpx) to create the gpi file you would have on your computer.

750 v 1450

@novisome, your profile says you have a 750 and have been a member for some time.

You speak of wanting to download to your computer POIs that over time [I] loaded onto my Garmin. I am assuming that you speak about your 750.

Yet when you say [you want to] see a list of POI's that have been downloaded onto Garmin 1450LMT, it seems you are wanting to know about the 6 million of so "built-in" POIs on your new 1450LMT.

We are confused as to what you want to do.

Update Profile

I just noticed I only listed my old 750 model. I also have a 1450. I was inquiring about the 1450. Looks like there isn't a way to download from the 1450 to the computer the custom poi's I previously loaded. I was hoping there was a way to download these as a way to check, delete and determine which ones I want to add or update.

A google search brought up a converter at GPS data team. I tried on 1 file and it seems to work. It puts a header in that you will need to remove. I do not know what will happen with multiple files in a gpi file such as multiple food files batched under a "Food" category.

gpsbabel works as well.

Again, multiple folders loaded in hasn't been tested (by me). Your mileage may vary. I converted a .gpi file into a .gpx and read it with EPE.
---and it's FREE---
