invalid csv (pilot truck stops)

I just downloaded the csv for pilot truck stops to put in my 2720. It keeps saying it is invalid file. I did some looking around and the other poi answers I found relate to gpi files and say to put it into the gps via windows explorer. This is not the case with the 2720 it does not show up in the explorer. Can some one look at the csv and find whats wrong? Thanks Dan. The flyin j list on this site only lists 269 the Pilot lists 625 Thanks Dan.

Did you use POI Loader?

Did you use POI Loader to load the .csv file into the nuvi?

Pilot

What pilot.csv or Flying J.csv files are you talking about?

This is a street pilot 2720.

This is a street pilot 2720. The csv file was downloaded from the Pilot truck stop website. I am using ver 7.0 of garmin poi loader. I also just discovered that I cant use sub directories. I have a directory name My poi. Under that I have American legion,diners,wal-mart,wifi and truck stops folders. If I try to put the 4 truck stop csv in the same folder it wont load. i get an error code on line 1 of the file. this happens only when I put more than one csv in the folder. If I try to give each truck stop csv a separate folder under the truck stop folder it wont load any of them. Thanks I am able to load all the truck stop csv separately but the one for the pilot keeps saying it is invaled file format. I have the csv for Loves truck stops, T/A truck stops,Petro truck stops.

there are problems with pilot's file

The file you download from pilot has several errors, the first of which is the header record. There also are errors in the location coordinates, some of which put the station in the wrong hemisphere. Your Street Pilot will use GPX files, so download DonaldB's Truck Stop file. The CSV versions on the site are no longer maintained.

Not even close ...

If this is the file at:
http://www.pilottravelcenters.com/Locations/Find_Locations/
it's not even close to a Garmin compatible csv file and would be a chore to convert it. If you absolutely want this one, let me know and I'll convert it.

There's a good 'Pilot/Flying J' file right here in River-City!

v7.0 POI Loader?

No such thing. MAC is 2.2.1, and Windows is 2.7.0.

The folder on my computer goes like this: Garmin/ POI/ 'xx', where 'x' is the category. It uploads just fine.

I wonder if a naming convention is causing a glitch. Of course, if the problem-child csv is faulty, that may be the answer as well.

Another way?...

cool

Welcome to the site!

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/26860

You could download the truck/RV fuel stops POI which include all the pilots and use EPE to convert it back to CSV and also delete all the unwanted POI's if not needed...

Think outside the box,,, If you want I can do it for you?, let me know?

That looks better has all

That looks better has all truck stops in one file. What is EPE? If that will convert it to CSV for Garmin I can do that. Thanks Dan

I converted the Pilot file to Garmin csv

This file may have info the other file doesn't have, like addresses, phone numbers, number of parking spaces, number of diesel lanes, number of showers, CAT scales, and food vendors. If you want it, I'll email it to you.

Nice job, RT!

Sounds like these files need to be merged for a better POI.

Yes please. Another question. I am unable to save the files with the truck stop icon even using EPE. Is there another way? Thanks

Sorry

Sorry, I don't use EPE so can't help you with this.

I uploaded the converted file, so it should show up within a few days.

Which icon? If you are referring to the Garmin icon, it works best with a GPX file. EPE will allow you to assign a symbol and how it is displayed. You need to add two fields to your file, symbol and display. The easiest method to add them is by doing a replace all (CTL-R) and press the 'S' key till the word Symbol shows in the pop-up. Then type Truck Stop for which symbol is to be used. Do another Replace and select 'Display' then type "SymbolOnly', 'SymbolAndName' or 'SymbolAndDescription.' If you are working with a CSV file, you load an icon along with the file. The icon file has to be the EXACT same name as the file with the extension set as BMP. Download one of the icons fro Poi-Factory's library to be certain it will work.
