Voice updates not "taking"

Webupater says there are new English-language voices. I install one or more of the new voices, including agreeing to the boilerplate. Installation progress proceeds without error.

When run again, Webupdater says there are new English-language voices, including the one or more I just installed.

What's up?

I have observed that

I have observed that Webupdater, after telling you that you have no firmware updates, will throw up a list of voice, text, and possibly other updates that are not specific to the current status of your unit. The only way to know if your voice update took, is to go into the "about" display for your GPSr, and compare that voice version to the one Webupdater is offering.

@AJBoots

What you're seeing is a bug in WebUpdater. The software is supposed to compare the version on the GPSr with the version on Garmin's servers. If the versions didn't match it displayed the changelog for the new version. If the versions did match, it was supposed to display a message saying there was no change.

The bug is that the software always prompts to upgrade the voices, text, and vehicles, even when those items have already been updated. So the updates did "take" and are on the device, but WebUpdater doesn't recognize the fact and prompts you to upgrade again. While somewhat annoying, at least it's not a crippling bug.

Garmin though should really fix the bug.
