Pre-Installed POIs are now showing up on my 1490>>>

I, stupidly, did the 5.40 update which caused me to lose my custom POI icons and now the preloaded poi are showing up (gas stations and such) and I'd like to rid myself of them. I cannot find any way to do so on the machine. I searched for help on this but saw no posts...any thoughts?
TIA

Custom POIs
I am surprised that the update did away with your custom POIs. Have you gone back in and activated them by going to proximity points >proximity alerts and making sure that custom POIs is checked?
I do not see how you can rid yourself of the built-in POIs. You can, hovever, keep them from showing by zooming your map out. On my 765T, I do not see any POI icons (or square dots) if I am zoomed out to 300 feet or more.
1490 problem
Well, I'd just call support. They seem to be pretty good, and the access time isn't bad.
Reverting to the older
Ted, reverting to the older firmware (5.10 or 5.20) is the only alternative, if you can find a link somewhere for the old firmware. This is the infamous favorites bug in the 1xxx series rearing its ugly head again.

Try
Try these:
5.30
5.20
5.10
Garmin ditched all the old versions of its firmware and keeps only the current one, which is why you probably couldn't find them. I believe that 5.20 didn't have the bug but you may have to go back as far as 5.10.
These are GCD files, so you shouldn't have to do anything more than replace your existing GCD file on the unit with these and reboot.
