how to spell intersection of two freeways?

In setting a route, I want to travel through an intersection of let say a state highway 395 and I-5. How do I enter such intersection? What would be the exact spelling?

Also, on the screen of my new Garmin 1450 square dots along roads appear here and there. They are not related to any businesses, bus stops, nothing that I could recognize. Any ideas what those square dots could be? Thanks.

intersections

In the case of numbered routes, just use the route numbers. In the case of Hwy 395 and I-5, Enter street 1 as 395 and street 2 as 5. Be certain to search all cities as what is displayed on a map may not be what is in the GPS for the same location.

@Box Car

I have a 765T and tried to find intersections near me. I had very mixed results. I can not find intersections where one interstate dead ends into another or where a highway dead ends into an interstate. I was able to find where a highway truly did an intersection with an interstate.

If there are some dead end intersection in your area, I would appreciate knowing what your results are.

I also had to make sure that I was looking in the right state when I took the "search all" option.

mixed results

In Lincoln IL, I-155 terminates into I-55. No problem entering intersection.

Hesperia CA, I-15 and US 395 = No matches found. It appears that US 395 commences at the end of the ramp. So no intersection exists.

"Unnamed road"

I suspect that my TomTom would produce similar results. Quite often the on/off ramps are displayed as "Unnamed road", so you wind up taking "Hwy 123" to "Unnamed road" and then on to "Hwy 789". Fortunately, it also displays the text of the exit sign so that helps avoid confusion.

.

Interstates typically do not have "intersections". Where they meet other roads, they have interchanges.

Thus you cannot search for these other than to browse the map.

MM. Not always.

Per my 1490t
Try this. GO TO>intersections>NM>ALBUQUERQUE>40>25>GO
Arrive at I-25 N & I-40W
Arrive in 1144 MI
Arrival 1:50 PM

So How Do I

create a route that goes N on I-55 in Ill., to the interchange of I-39? How do I select I-39 N, instead of following I-55 N?

what is the destination?

I would say it depends on the destination. If the destination is closer to I-39 then the route would normally default to I-39. Otherwise use a via point.

Browse the map.

In your case, browse map to Bloomington. Then pan to the intersection of I-55N & I-39. Touch the ramp, in this case, exit 164. Save that location to favorites.
When you create your route, add the favorite (164) as a via point.

I normally run into hat problem not typing intersection but entering addresses on popular routes. I tried all different entries - state high way, route number and still end up getting "no match found"

The square dots are probably your Favorites. I think on the 1xxx series the map used to show the Favorite name but a firmware update awhile ago broke that and now all Favorites appear as a square dot.

The square dot

The square dots are those built in POIs that have not been assigned a symbol - like fuel or food. Of course you have to be zoomed in to 200 feet or less to see the icons or dots. If you tap on the symbol, a small cloud-like pop-up will appear with the name.

Nice

Destination is up I-39 into Wisconsin

then into Milwaukee. I would say it depends on the destination.

Forcing I-39

alleghany wrote:

Then I would set a via point on I-39 near Janesville. That would force the route.
