The best thing I ever ate

I want to congratulate cowmanfl for his poi file "The best thing I ever ate".

I looked at this file for fun because my wife likes the show (and good restaurants!). I was very pleased to see it contains detailed address information and especially a good description with the recommended meal, the opening hours and the web site.

All that I would need if I wanted to go there. Good job!

That too is one of my favorite files, just wished there were more locations near me.

I also modified my own Diner Drive-Ins and Dives csv to show what food was served at each location based on what was featured at the show.

Very good idea, flaco!

I think this is a great idea. This is why I designed EPE for in the first place.

You are on vacations. Your GPS is showing you 20 restaurants (or more) and you have no clue which one to choose. If you have specialities, opening hours, phone and maybe price or some sort of ranking, that would help a lot to take a decision.

Continue the good job, guys!

.

I'll have to check that file out. looks interesting.

Be well,
Ray

Thanks very much, turboccc!

I've enjoyed working on the files, and am glad you find them useful and/or interesting. Coming from you, in particular, the kind words are greatly appreciated. Thanks to you too, for the software that makes it so much easier to construct a good file.

Nice

This is a nice file, but I would like to see all of the state location together. I konw some times it is hard to do that, but it makes it easier if you are looking at the file to see it any are in your state.

Which one thing is best?

How many people can pick out the single best thing they've ever eaten? I can't. There have been so many good things, and such different tastes, there's no way I could pick just one.

Sort by State?

There are different things you can do using EPE. One of them should fill your need (I hope).

1- Sort the file by State. Then a simple search should make the trick and you will have all the places from the same State one after the other.

2- Export by State and it will create a file for each State. Then it makes it easier for you to look just at the State you want.

3- Add your own location with Add New POI. Enter your address, geocode it and grab the coordinates. save the POI. While you location is highlighted, go in Tools Sort by LOcation. This will give you the distance between your location and all other POIs in the editor.

4- If there are not too many POIs in EPE (I think you will get crazy above 500 because it will be very slow), you can go in View - View All POI on MAP and you will see all POIs on the map. By clicking each one you are interested in, you will see their location and description.

I hope this helps.

An easier way?

If what you want is to know which locations in a file are nearest to you, could you not simply download the file, install it on your gps, select the file, and see the 50 locations nearest your present position (assuming there are at least 50 locations in the file)?

Sort by State?

Ineed to clairfy. I now you can load it and then the closes 50 will show. The comment I made was when I first open a poi I scroll down th see if any are in my state. If they are all in one location then I can see if I want the poi or not. If they are all over then I have to go by line and could miss my state if there is only one location. It is just something I thought of not something that need to be worked on. When I build a poi I put in the location alphabetical by state. I think it also helps to ensure you get all of the locations for each state. Just me. It was still a good poi.

Most of us probably build

Most of us probably build the poi's by state, but where mine get out of order is if I want to do just 1 addition or deletion I do it in the edit portion on line. If I do a lot of updates I will upload a new file and then they will be in order.
