Microsoft Streets and Trips

Microsoft Streets and Trips loves GPX files. I do all the trip planning for my group using using Streets and Trips. Can we start a forum for Streets and Trips and can we have an Upload / Download section devoted to Streets and Trips POI files?

Streets & Trips

Sounds good to me. I use Streets & Trips a lot, when planning long trips. I also carry it along on a laptop as a backup to my Garmin. I have one with the GPS Locator USB plugin.

Which GPS units will MS Streets and Trips work on?

We're looking for another GPS unit - I have the MS Streets and Trips 2010 software. We are looking @ the Magellan 1700 or a Garmin unit. Will the MS Streets and Trips download to both the Magellan and the Garmin GPS units?

Thanks.

since MIO bought Magellan

Since the Magellan brand was bought by MIO I don't think anything will download to it except their files. Magellan was a proud name and a great unit but couldn't compete against both Garmin and Tom-Tom.

What to do?

Thanks, Box Car. From your post it sounds like we should probably go with either a Garmin or maybe just get a Tablet with Co-Pilot. I'm blue in the face trying to figure out which product to buy. The reviews are discouraging and doesn't help with making up one's mind as there are so many with less than positive remarks. We purchased a Garmin 465T for a good price on eBay but it performed horribly on our first trip and we sent it back for a full refund. What other Garmin would be a good choice???

Thanks.....

it depends

It depends on what you are trying to do with the unit. If you are in an RV, then Garmin doesn't have any units specific to the needs of an RVer. There is some chatter abut the Rand McNally units, but I have no experience with them.

There are several POI on the Factory that work quite well for RV units. Firenuts has received many accolades about the low clearance POI. There are POI for truckstops, which include some information needed by RV units and the Camp Wal-Mart POI lists those allowing an overnighter.

As far as having a large screen, that's your choice.

another thumbs up ....

... for MS streets and trips, used it long before i had my first GPS, still use it to print out locations and over-all routes that the small gps just can't show.

Are you saying that Streets & trips can export GPX files? I had not noticed that capability before, and will certainly put it to use.

I like S&T for planning, and if I can use its directions in my TomTom, that will be a real convenience. (I will have to convert the GPX files to OV2 files for the TomTom, but that should be doable.) Using my laptop with S&T on the road is not really an ideal solution, as my wife complains about the space it takes up.
