Yes you can but not using

Yes you can but not using the automated map updater program Garmin provides. You'll need to use MapInstall to copy the maps to the SD card. Tap on the box that displays your Garmin and you should be able to select the Garmin's SD card slot. Tap next after selecting the SD card slot and select all the maps by holding the left mouse button down while dragging the mouse to select the entire country. Tap next, then next once more (I believe), then go out to dinner. By the time you're done with dinner the maps should have completed transferring.

Nope

Only for the one that's registered for the update.

map on sd card

First if you did everything correctly after you finish install the map on your Sd card, and inserted the card on you SD slot "Did you see a green line going from the left to the right screen on yours gps ? " That line it mean that map on your SD card was actived ,then go to the tools of your gps click on MAP and again Click on MAP INFO and you will see a little square on the top left corner you must have the CHECK MARK only on one of them.Remember the TOP is the map on your SD Card and the Buttom is the map for your Gps.You must enable one of them. Also you can use the same Sd card on a different gps

I hope it help your question

Please do not spread

Please do not spread inaccurate information. The maps placed on the SD card through this process are tied to the device, meaning the SD card cannot be used on another device. Maps purchased on a SD card from Garmin are tied to the SD card and can be used on multiple devices.

This is only true for maps that are locked such as City Navigator and some newer Topo maps.

This is NOT true for older Topo maps from Garmin and is NOT true for the various free, open-source maps that are available for compatible units.

The latest maps

Mama, the OP did say "the latest maps". The previous responses were understood to be referring to City Navigator, thus my reply. I do understand that if he was installing a Topo map, he wouldn't have such a restriction.

Like Strephon_Alkhalikoi, when I read this post, after werskine had originally posted

Quote:

I assumed that this was a question about using one "new" map update on multiple devices. I even wondered if there would be copies made of the SD card.

Still, when I looked at werskine's profile and saw how many POI files he was responsible for and how long he had been a member, I wondered, as MM likely assumed, if he was talking about maps other than, say, the latest of lifetime updates.

I hope he will clarify for us exactly what was meant as I am sure that many readers would love to be able to simply copy SD cards to use in some other unit and that, as Strephon_Alkhalikoi points out, is not possible with "latest" maps in the sense that I typically understand that term.
