Opps...need an UNDUE

I merged the Cracker Barrel .gpx file with the Current.gpx file in my Nuvi and I now have all the Cracker Barrels on my GPS my saved locations and no more memory. How do I undue what I did?

you can't

You have to go in and delete each. The Current.GPX file you see is only a copy of what's in protected memory.

Doing a master reset wipes all personal data which also clears Current.

why not just..

hook garmin back up to computer, start poi uploder and delete all poi files and then start over???

He can't

He merged the Cracker Barrel with Current. This put all of Cracker Barrel in as favorites. There is no poi.gpi to delete. He has to either delete the individual Cracker Barrel favorites or do a master reset and lose all favorites and start in again.
Unless the op took a backup of his current before he did this.

RE-write the current.gxp file

If you need your favorites and hopefully only several records, copy the current gpx file to computer. Right click on the file and open it with notepad. Either copy and past your favorites in a new file or delete all the Cracker Barrel favorites.

I would think copy and paste your favorites would be easier.

GPX files not easy to work with in notepad

It would be if the file were a CSV file, but it's a GPX file. GPX files are an XML format designed specifically for GPS information exchange. From personal experience it's far too easy to make a mistake attempting to extract the information using notepad, since each entry in a GPX file multiple lines in length. Extra POI Editor is his best chance for extracting his favorites since the information is in a format that is easily read and digested.

Open the .gpx with Mapsource

Delete the unwanted locations and overwrite the current.gpx on the unit (backup the complete one).

Cracker Barrel file has a hundred or more locations requiring to depress the EPE delete button for each one. What a pain that will be.

I use notepad all the time, each POI will be in set, and most of the Cracker Barrel POIs will be one after another. All you need to do is highlight and delete in bunches.

On second though, use EPE to convert it to a multiple field csv file, sort by POI name, delete all lines with Cracker Barrel. Use EPE to convert the csv file to gxp file, save as Temp.gxp.

Making edits to a GPX file

Making edits to a GPX file using Notepad is painful at best. Creating a GPX file from scratch using Notepad is insanity.

Your second thought works far better.

Use Right Tools

Good approach. Use right tools for the right job.

All too often we become enamored with some software and try to make it fit every problem - when, in reality, certain tools work best for certain tasks.

While playing with EPE I found something I had not realized was possible. Take some file - I chose Sears stores - and open with EPE. Use a find to jump to the location nearest to you. Then, Tools > Sort by Location (or CNTL-L) and look at how the file becomes sorted with the closest to you first and the one the greatest distance away at the bottom.

Surely I can figure out something to use this for.

Turbocc really has a jewel of a utility.
