EcoRoute

I looked at some post on eoroute but havent seen what I am looking for. Yhis is for those who have set up the function and using it.

I did my initial setup- price per gallon, city mileage and highway consumption.

next I am "At the Pump" setting.
1. Fuel price - this is straight forward
2. Fuel used - I guess this is the amount of gallons consumed.
3.Distance traveled - Amount of miles driven

It seems like you can enter any two and the other component should be calculated.
any take on this setting. Any article on the interpretation of the final data?

Calculates as you drive

After you set the 3 items up while you are at the pump your gps calculates the amount of $ the trip you just took cost.

I can't remember where but there is a report you can look at to tell you how many mpg you used.

Fuel report, will show you MPG

Ste your Veh city and HWY MPG, fuel cost, you are all set, now remember to zero (reset) at each fill up. You GPS should show the same miles as you gas fill up tripodometer each time Manualy calc MPG and use the calibrate to adjust your MPG. after a few times you should get right on results. Also remember if you don't use GPS 100% of the time, your numbers will be off.

Also the Eco number on your map screen will help teach you to get effective pedal control on acceleratgion and braking and theoretical best speed

Thank you

thanks for replying.

Dual-use GPS isn't reallt the best

I use a 560LMT in the 18-wheeler I drive, and while I'm on teh road, my wife uses the car at home. This REALLY skews the Eco-Route data, but the numbers still give a good indication of how I'm doing when I'm home. Unfortunately, Eco-Route doesn't work when I'm in the 18-wheeler mode.

MPG/$ at soft power-off

When I have the unit running on cigarette lighter power and turn the car off, the unit gives a warning that power is off, press on the screen-displayed button to stay on. Just above the place to press, the mpg and dollar cost of the current trip is displayed.

If instead you manually press the power button at the top of the unit, that information (mpg, $) is not displayed.

fyi.

Excel History Files

There are two CSV files stored in your Garmin by the ecoRoute feature (they can be found in the Reports folder).

  • At_the_pump.csv contains your fillup history.

  • mileage.csv contains stats for all trips that used a Favorite as the destination. This data may be viewed using ecoRoute's Mileage Report function

Copy these files to your computer to maintain your driving history for curiosity, mileage tracking, etc. The data in these files are cumulative.

A hard reset of your Nuvi will not erase these files, but you will have to setup ecoRoute again (the ecoRoute function is disabled by the hard reset)

Keep in mind . . .

. . . that the ecoroute data for the mileage travelled/fuel purchased is really only valid if you fill up your tank completely.

Often I just buy $20 of fuel if the price is stupid, and the mileage will look strange if I've gone some 500 km and purechased 17 litres of fuel, though the cumulative data will 'catch up' when you do a fill.

Note that you should use the mileage from your car's odometer, because the GPS 'cuts corners' between samples and it will not be as accurate as the physical one in your vehicle.

Also Keep in mind

If you have a unit that supports Ecoroute HD and spent the extra money one does not need to know how full the tank is for the report will tell you what time you left, the distance you traveled, how long it took, what mpg you got and how much it cost. All you have to do is keep entering the cost per gallon.
For example on July 23rd we drove to Lincoln Nebraska a distance of 190.5 miles on a very windy day. It took 184 minutes (rest stop) and averaged 62mph. The car did 37.7 mpg and the fuel cost $16.61.
On the way home I drove 190.1 miles (took a short cut) and heading directly into the wind it took 2.7 hours to get home and averaged 70mph. The car did 35.9 mpg and it cost $18.17. This told me it cost $1.56 for the extra speed and wind.
Nice toy if one wants it.

Interesting replies. Very much appreciated. I started using it Saturday but reset it. OK, here is my issue. The ecoRoute icon was displayed below the zoom in and zoom out signs. When driving the challenge number was displayed - 88, 90 etc. I like to use the speed limit on the garmin because it displays the mph and the route speed limit. If I am going over the limit it appears in red so I know right away I must slow down. That function is disabled with the eco-challenge score being displayed while driving. The only way I was able to get the correct MPH and speed warning shown correctly was to get out of the eco-Route function. I may have to read more on it so I can manipulate the functionality. I would like to get it working without the challenge score displaying.

additional points . . .

. . .

So with the HD interface you don't get the aliasing issues if you do a partial fill?

My 3790 displays the instantaneous ecoscore at the same time as the speed limits and colour update for the current speed - I think it might also be nice if they had a 'chime' oprion for overspeed indication.

Also, keep in mind that the speed limits have been known to be incorrect at some places, so be careful about relying on the display.

Checked it out

On my trip across town to the annual 60 bottle wine tasting I took my 1490 and checked it out. It displayed the ecoroute below the minus sign and the speed limit below it. The GPS did give me a warning beep about the 35mph speed limit.
