DOD Goes After Lightsquared

There's been plenty of discussion on POI Factory about the Lightsquared project. Now the Department of Defense is raising the same (interference) objections mentioned so many times here: http://www.defense.gov/News/NewsArticle.aspx?ID=65355

I hope this doesn't go unchecked. I need more GPS accuracy not less.

Lightsquare's days numbered?

With DoD getting involved it looks like Lightsquares days are numbered.

As prior, tons on the "interwebs" about this, I know and follow this as part of the ARRLs (Ham Radio) opposition to such, but certainly a big issue for we GPS users.

thanks for the link - good read!

Don't Bet On It

I wouldn't bet on it with this administration.

All Business

I am afraid that all businesses are about the money anymore. It is most interesting to see how this will play out.

I can't see how Lightsquared

I can't see how Lightsquared will come out on top, with so many groups against it, especially DOD.

The real question will be whether the responsible organization & people for that decision will be prosecuted!

Down The Drain..

I'm hoping "LightSquared" goes down the drain!

GPS Jamming

Unbelievable how the mighty dollar can be more powerful than the well being of a nation!!!
This company needs to go down!!!

Just a sign of the times,

Just a sign of the times, the needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many. Lightsquared is just taking advantage of the situation, but I think they will ultimately lose. I wonder when the FAA will chime in with all the GPS approaches. Granted, it's not a precision approach, but hiding under that veil is not acceptable. Even non-precision approaches should be as precise as possible, IMHO.

Business priority #1 is to make money. If it isn't, you're a charity.

Guess who was an early investor in Lightsquared

A one Barack Obama... why does that name seem familiar???

The Establishment Media is not doing what was once their job. If any politician other than this were in this company as deep - the media would be screaming headlines about corruption.

real problem

This is a serious issue - can't believe all the crony politics that are involved in what should be a simple technology issue. The bandwidth spectrum is already in use - sorry.

Yup, the market speaks, and it brings you....

KBR
Halliburton
Goldman Sachs
Lehman Bros

.....and a bankrupt country.

Not to worry though, Goldman Sachs et. al are doing just fine. Pity about Lehman though, although Richard Fuld came out of it alright.

"On November 10, 2008 Fuld transferred his Florida mansion to his wife Kathleen for $100 in order to protect the house from potential legal actions against him. They had bought it four years earlier for $13.56 million"

Makes the thread on "Camera Fraud" seem a little picayune.

Unlike other countries, it's actually legal and acceptable for the press in the United States to lie.

http://www.projectcensored.org/top-stories/articles/11-the-m...

With this, there is no hope except to get your news from countries whose agencies are required by law to be balanced and impartial in reporting the news. However, it's too late for the vast majority of this country, as they have become complacent and are little better than sheep, willing to accept and do anything they are told, because the government maneuvered them into being afraid.
