Can't put Custom POI on SD Card for 1350LMT

I purchased a 1350lmt today. Put in a microSD card, downloaded POI loader from Garmin website, proceeded to load custom POI downloaded from POI factory. POI Loader loads fine but when I tap on Extras, nothing. It says no extras were loaded. Called Tech Support at Garmin, the tech told me to put the custom POIs on the device itself. Why? Why? When I put it on the device the Extras does find it but no folder structure.
I create a folder called MyPOI, under it I created a subfolder called FreeWiFi, then I put the csv file under that subfolder. In the Extras I get, Custom POI and then all the POIs right there. Why?

Does 1350lmt support Custom POIs on the SD card? If not I will return it. Thanks.

Yes

Yes, all Nuvi models support Custom POI's loaded on the SD card.

When running POIloader direct it to save the POIs to the \Garmin\POI folder on the SD card. Create the Garmin folder and the POI folder on the card prior to running POIloader.

Inset the SD card in the Nuvi and turn the GPS on. If the Nuvi recognizes the SD card a message will appear on the screen telling you that new POIs were found and asking if you want to put them on the Nuvi.

If you don't get that message then the SD card is not being recognized by the Nuvi. Possible causes of this problem would be the you didn't direct the saved .gpi to the proper place on the card, the card is not formatted as Fat32, the card is corrupt, or the card slot in the Nuvi isn't working properly.

When you run poi loader you

When you run poi loader you need to point it to the "My Poi" folder. You will then get the structure of seeing "Wifi" as a category and the the actual file inside that.

As a FYI...I have a 1350 and I do not need to create ahead of time a \Garmin\Poi folder on the card.

A caveat is that when everything is correct you will be asked every time you boot up if you want to copy to the main drive. You have to say no if you want it to stay on the card. There is no way around this. It is what it is! Another "bad" change garmin did.

Thanks for such a prompt

Thanks for such a prompt reply, YES.

Yes, I created Garmin\POI folder structure on the SD card before running POI Loader.
Yes, the microSD card is formatted FAT32.
Yes, the microSD card, while in the gps shows up as a drive on my windows 7 laptop. Its readable and writable.
Yes, the POI loader can see the microSD card and writes to it.
No, when I turn the nuvi on with SD card in it, it doesn't tell me that it found new POIs.

Then you have not loaded any

Then you have not loaded any poi's to the card.
I assume you did the dropdown box in poi loader to point to the sd card.

When you look at the sd card in explorer as a drive and you go to the poi folder you should see (if it loaded) a xxx.gpi

By the way, the POILoader

By the way, the POILoader creates file with .poi extension not .gpi.

Your are using ver 2.7.0

There is a bug in that version.
Go to the folder and rename the .poi to .gpi and it will work.

The extension that is used is .gpi.

Please read here on the 2.7.0 issues

Thanks. That works. Why wouldn't the Garmin tech support tell me that then? After the GPS purchase today I downloaded the latest version of POILOader from their website.

Here's what's funny. If I point POILoader to save custom POIs to the gps device itself, the gps finds those custom POIs. That's with the buggy POILOader.

Thanks for the heads up.

Glad we got it straightened

Glad we got it straightened out.
As you saw in the other post there are some reporting its ok so I am not sure what that is all about.
