Traffic "persistence"

How long should traffic info remain in your GPS after leaving a coverage area?

I drove from Denver, Colorado to Durango, Colorado the other night, and even when I was in Durango, I still had traffic info from Denver! Of course, it didn't show anything for Durango, but I could tell what roads were messed up back in Denver, several hundred miles away!

So I asked Garmin CS

So, getting no answer here, I wrote Garmin customer service and asked the following --

"How long should the traffic info remain on my unit when I get
out of range of traffic services? It seems to last quite a bit longer
than it should. Yesterday I was 300+ miles south of Denver and traffic
info for Denver was still available."

The answer?

"Dear Earl Needham,

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

I will be happy to help you with this. Unfortunately, there is no set
distance or time that I can provide for when the traffic information
should clear from your device. This distance and time frame will vary."

BIGGEST NON-ANSWER I EVER SAW! I guess they'll be happy to assist me and tell me -- nothing!

As long as the FM reciever

As long as the FM reciever gets a signal it will give you the traffic info for the area the signal is coming from. It works just like the FM radio in your car, so it depends on weather, terrain, and placement of the recieving antenna.

Mine has done this as well. It seems that it will stay until a update comes in that is closer to where you are and if there are no traffic updates the last ones stay with you.
When I go to the cottage I still get signal most of the way up but since there is rarely trafic in that area I am still showing traffic status 160 miles away except this weekend when there was a major accident with road closures.

Was the status icon for traffic Green?

What about the LED indicator on the receiver/power plug? Was there a 'green light' on that? As was noted above, if you're getting traffic data, it's viewable on your device - even if the data source is from 300+ miles away...

When I leave an area with traffic coverage, the icon goes grey for a while, then disappears when I power cycle - when that happens, the last data it got is still there until I turn my 765t off.

There are no LEDs on the newest GTM20 receivers. I bought one for my 885 and it has no LEDs. It was "news" to Garmin Support and they stated as far as they knew, there would be no manual on the new units. Same P/N as the old ones too!

traffic feature

I will say here in Des Moines, Ia the traffic feature is worthless. Shows traffic when there is none and does not show when there is. Kind of like when you wish the weatherman would just get a window.
